Beware UTI's and don't ignore worsening symptoms

So, last night I was watching the news and they were reporting on what caused the death of a well known local former TV news reporter and anchor. It was sad, because she was helpful, warm and charasmatic. Those who knew her reported her as such, and her personality came through on her reports. Her family said that she said she thought she had COVID and may or may not have been tested. She was a healthy person with no risk factors and was only 59 years old. Apparently, a UTI spread to her kidneys and caused her death. This is very scary because I experienced something similar this winter. Thank God, I recovered. I knew I should go to the doctor but when it was really at its worse was on the weekend and I would have had to pay more so I talked myself out of it. I think the moral of the story is if you have a UTI, and it doesn't immediately improve with treatment.,See a doctor and don't play Russian Roulette with your life.

Please take care and be safe all the time. To avoid UTI, it is recommended yjay you drink more water. Take atleast 2-3L of water. It also helps if u drink coconut juices. Avoid eating, salty, oilyband fatty foods.

I do drink a fair amount of water. Yogurt helps with prevention too, as well as cranberry.

Plenty of people are "hygienic" and still get them. There are multiple ways to get them, and certain people are more susceptible than others.

@snowy22315 Yes, I gathered as much yesterday when I told my daughter about your discussion. She told me that her college friend Aika once grimaced in pain because she had a bout with UTI. Although a very hygienic person, she is prone to it. That time, my daughter saw her friend literally cry in school because of the physical pain. Aika's solution to her problem - drink coconut juice once a week.

Oh wow, I remember mom getting those but I haven't a clue what the symptoms are for that. Time to do some research.

Can't believe you have never had one, you might have and just not noticed, although that is hard to do.

I haven't a clue what the symptoms would be, it was a doctor that told me mom had one but she never mentioned any kind of pain or whatever.

Great advice. I get frequent UTI's, but the last one I had was a really bad kidney infection. My doctor really thought I had Covid, but was negative.

Yes, the kidney infection could have been fatal as it was for this poor lady.

@snowy22315 I'm sure sorry about that poor lady. Mine was so bad my doctor gave me IV solutions in his office! I had Rocefen injections four days in a row and then on oral Rocefen for a week. He thought I had a blood clot in my lung, but it wasn't. It was the worst kidney infection or UTI I ever had. I'm thankful to have survived it.

I know that, in a dementia unit, as soon as the behaviour of a person changes significantly, they test for UTIs.

@snowy22315 Because most are incontinent, it's easy for them to pick up infections.

It is not. Normally they are reasonably easy to treat but any sign of spreading can not be ignored.

@Courtlynn They wouldn't have to tell you, you would probably know. Chills, fever things like that are indications. Never let it get to that point.

I had a UTI last year and yes that was painful. I had to take antibiotics to resolve the problem. I was also drinking a lot of cranberry juice

They can be pretty bad, and if they spread, you definitely need to hightail it to the doctor immediately.
