Oh, and Speaking of Jimmy Buffett….

When I started the last countdown I referenced the song “Christmas Island.” Our resident Jimmy Buffett geek @NJChicaa praised Buffett’s version….but didn’t know that was a cover. So, in her honor, and because I really have nothing else to do between all these doctors appointments over the next two weeks, I’m counting down my favorite songs that Jimmy Buffett covered. The twist in this is that I’ll use the original artists’ renditions. I have a companion countdown ready that sort of reverses the scenario: covers of songs that Bob Dylan wrote! Fear not, I won’t subject you to Dylan’s voice. So stars and songs will be falling on Alabama and everywhere else in myLot for the next week and a half! As for our teaser: Buffett covered this song on his 1981 album Coconut Telegraph. He was born in Alabama, so it’s an obvious song for him to do. The original recording was by Guy Lombardo in 1935 or so.

Guy Lombardo always reminds me of New Year's Eve. I'm glad these will be covers and not Jimmy Buffet. Sorry @NJChicaa, I don't care for him.
