Day 181 Psalm 61:1 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. 4 I will abide in thy tabernacle forever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. 5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those who fear thy name. 6 Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations. 7 He shall abide before God forever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. 8 So will I sing praise unto thy name forever, that I may daily perform my vows. What do you do when life overwhelms you? How do you react when life doesn’t throw curveballs, and everything seems to go well? David prayed. He bowed himself before God and meditated on His presence. He sat at His feet. David wrote songs of praise. He gave glory to God for His presence in his life. As Christians, there are times when life takes a step back. Satan doesn’t come against you. You feel an overwhelming peace in the middle of the storm and you know everything will be all right. In those times, don’t forget God. Don’t forget to praise Him and meditate on His Word. Sit at His feet as Mary did. Luke 10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. (KJV) Mary wanted one thing, to hear Jesus speak. David wanted to spend time in God’s presence. He went often to the tabernacle to bask in God’s glory. What do you do when life is at a standstill? In those times, praise God for His goodness to you. Life overwhelms if you let it. In those times, do as David did, spend time in God’s presence, praising Him. Prayer isn’t only for those times when life is so chaotic you can’t see your way out without God’s help. Prayer is also for those times when life takes a step back and allows you to take a breath and praise God for His goodness to you. People often forget God when life is good. Don’t be one of those people. Praise God every day. When life takes a turn for the worse, praise Him. When life steps back and you have come out of the tunnel into the light, praise Him. Satan waits to see what you will do when he lets up his attack on you. Don’t give him cause to rejoice. Give God praise in the good times and the bad. When you do, Satan will flee from you because you praise God in every season of your life. Let’s pray: Father, help me praise You when life takes a step back. Help me see Your overwhelming presence in my life and bask in Your glory as David did. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 9 December 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
