Air Fryers are a pain in the neck

My husband is the cook in our house most of the time. I like doing the big dinner but my biggest problem is clean ups after the meal. We use a teflon air fryer and the clean up afterwards is so bad. I can never get it clean. I can spend an hour on the one pot but it never gets the whole pot clean. I know not to use brillo on it but it still needs to be scrubbed. Any suggestions?

I bought one for my husband to give me for Christmas, so I sure hope it's easy to clean!

@DaddyEvil I am ready to toss mine out but my husband likes cooking in it. I never cook in it.

@ramapo17 I clean everything we use in the kitchen. If I don't like trying to clean something, I give it away.

I have no suggestion. I’ve never owned an air fryer.

Anything made in Teflon is a pain and you will never be able to have it perfectly clean. You always have the feeling that it is "greasy". I brought back mine, I do not like how it cooks the food.

@ramapo17 - I do not like how the food comes out from an air fryer, so I will not buy another one.

One suggestion... give the thing away. That's what I did with ours.

@ramapo17 I got tired of trying to clean ours so just cleaned it as well as I could and gave it to friends. Pretty wasn't happy but I told her she could do the cleaning if she wanted to use it. (It sat dirty for three days so that gave me my answer.) Once in a while she cooks something I like but makes a mess I hate to clean up so I buy aluminum pans and throw them away after she cooks in them.

@DaddyEvil That is smart. I was looking for a glass one if they make them. I think it would be easier to clean.

I am on the verge of giving it or losing it but my husband loves to cook with it. I really like some of the foods he cooks in it but the cleaning up is the pits. Maybe I might try a glass one. I can give it to him for Christmas.

My mom washed ours. By hand it usually came clean, with soap and sponge. It was the drying she hated. Paper towel and towels just left fuzz on it

I have never used one. But here are some tips to clean teflon. Seems like vinegar might can help.

I tried the vinegar and the salt and it is not worth the aggravation and tired arms if I can get it clean.

I've always wanted a friend who had an air fryer so I could see how she used it. Your post here makes me wonder if I want one.

I bought one thinking it would cut on the grease generally - cupboard doors, work surfaces, etc - but here, we haven't used it. It hasn't been given a fair trial really.

I don't know what it that, but I believe baking soda with vinegar or hot water can clean anything. I hate to use physical strength to clean.

That didn't work either. I tried everything I heard of or read about but it didn't work on the copper pot or top.

I know one of my kids has a basic air fryer that is constantly in need of cleaning. They keep their home spotlessly clean, but oh, that air fryer is nasty! I clean it every time I stay over there. My youngest daughter wanted an air fryer, but she didn't want what her brother and sister in law have, so she did a lot of homework on them, and saved all of her Christmas and birthday money to get one that looks like a toaster oven? It's a Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer. Cost way more and I feared it would not make her happy, to spend so much on it and she is so picky about cleaning, I figured she would make herself crazy trying to keep up with the mess. But it is tons easier to clean than the regular kind. I thought about getting one, to be honest. But the last thing I need is something else to sit on the counter, plus I don't know if I would even use it that much, so I do not have one. I have enjoyed foods that the kids fix in theirs, it's always good.
