Hey hey, they were the Monkees. The pre-fab four. The original video band. And now only one remains. Michael Nesmith, arguably the most independently talented member of the Monkees, passed away today (December 10). In addition to his time with the Monkees he was a songwriter (he wrote the song that introduced Linda Ronstadt to the world, “Different Drum”), solo artist, a producer, and a video producer. In the 80s he has a brief series on NBC called Elephant Parts. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. Only Micky Dolenz remains now from the Monkees. Farewell to Mike Nesmith, who was 78. Mike Nesmith’s version of “Different Drum”:
From the Album: "And The Hits Just Keep On Comin"Released in: 1972

Yeah, I heard that earlier today... Did you know that his mother invented Liquid Paper?

Yes, it’s true! I’m glad he’s being remembered as a singer/songwriter and not “heir to White-Out.”

The Monkees were an interesting phenomenon. I was in their age demographic, but I was male, so they were irrelevant to me. Sorry to hear that Nesmith is gone.

That is such sad news. I always thought the two Beatles should get together with the two Monkees so this makes me really sad.I forgot to mention how our thoughts have crossed I know you wrote this on the 10th but here I am with my Internet back and connected and continuing with my TV theme song posts Guess what? Today is The Monkees and now I feel sad that Mike is gone. Have you heard that awesome song he wrote Papa Gene's Blues? Just love it and will listen to it in his honor

Mike who made wearing a knit cap in all kinds of weather cool... Now all we have is that zany drummer as the last Monkee. Wow! BTW: Micky's vocals on those Monkee tracks were surprisingly good!
