Fake Profiles on Facebook and Instagram

Hi Everyone, I wanted to advice all those that use Facebook and Instagram to be careful when you receive a friend request, even from one of your own friends. One of my friends on Facebook told everyone that someone used his profile photo and details to make a fake profile on Instagram and was sending friend requests. When I get a friend request from one of my own friends I always send the original user a message to see if he/she made a new account or if it is fake. Be careful everyone.

From what I heard, there are plenty fake profiles used to scam people. Sometimes they didn't start out fake. The original account was hacked, and so the user makes another profile but since double account is against FB policy, the user is banned. Hence there is the original account, which is used by the hacker and then a second account that the user cannot access because it's against policy, yet this account is never closed. Imagine if the user keeps trying creating new accounts, you will find many profiles of one user. Also happens, the user deletes the account but FB never does it. Someone found a 4 year old FB account he specified to delete but it is still there.

@DianeBorg that's right. especially when they have submitted documents to prove their identity. even if they did get the account back, they can still be banned/deactivated for no reason, which also happens a lot. but for a business, this can mean a big loss of time and money. I'm not on Fb or Insta but it's sad to know this happening and it's getting worse with the pandemic, there are not enough people in customer/technical support

@LittleMel facebook should find a solution to get rid to scammers and to help the original owners and not banning them, in that way it is like Facebook wants scammers.

Yes, unfortunately they are all over facebook and even join groups to try to scam people. It is not fair that the original user is hacked and facebook does nothing about it, there were even pages that were hacked and the original owner tried in vain to get them back. All that work and time for nothing.

Happened to me recently. I friend of mine sent me a friend request, I thought he made a new account, I end up finding 3 profiles of his, not sure which one is the real.
