Thanks again to @NJChicaa for being a Jimmy Buffett fan and inspiring this countdown of favorite songs that Buffett has covered. I’m using the original versions and basing the place in the countdown on the original renditions, not so much on Buffett’s version. Here’s the top song on the list.
#1: Biloxi - Jesse Winchester
As with yesterday’s songwriter, Steve Goodman, this isn’t the only trip into the discography that Buffett made. “Defying Gravity” is also a Winchester tune, and a darn good one.
But this song…..ooh.
This is a beautiful song, anytime, anywhere. But if you really want to be transported, sit on the beach in Biloxi while listening to this song.
I listened to both versions of this song while I was in Mississippi earlier this year. They are quite different, with Buffett’s rendition being over two minutes longer (thanks to an instrumental break and a repeat of the first verse).
The song encapsulates the stunning beauty of the Gulf region “down around Biloxi.” It’s a beautiful place, worthy of a most beautiful song.
Thanks for reading.

Don't know this one either. I guess I've been living under a rock.

well you ended on a streak, songs where I like the original better than the cover.
sometimes, originals should just be allowed to be!
