Read more, watch less

It is really astonishing how much we watch and listen to, in our digital age.
I mean, how much we consume media other than reading.
I used to read voraciously as a child - I grew up when computers were things only found in offices - certainly didn't have my own personal mobile computer.
As wonderful as these tools are, they may actually be robbing us a bit of the value of reading.
For example, our imagination. Isn't it true that when you watch a movie based on the book, if you've read the book first, you'll often think, ' the book was better.' I know I have. The details you get in a written form and the details that your mind and imagination fill out for you as you read! You don't rely on someone else's imagination.
Reading develops patience - which we could all use a lot more of - and deep thinking.
One of the advantages of mylot - you have to read, and you write! So two thumbs up, everyone

Honestly, I wouldn't say people don't necessarily read any less, but they tend to read on their phones and other digital devices. Instead of books and novels though, they are usually reading things like news and trivia or sensationalism. I think media with it's vistual imagery excites people more than black and white pages. I don't often read real books anymore and I would like to get back to it.

I think you are right - I know myself, I get a lot of reading, but more from the internet.
But there's nothing like working your way through a book or novel - having the patience to do it.
I'm speaking for myself - I often am 'too busy' and am trying to do more real reading than 'skimming'

@sulynsi Yeah, I was thinking about reading this afternoon, but I have a book on the kindle. I do actually have a couple of books in the car, that I started...and they are good, but they seem to have fallen by the wayside.

@snowy22315 Kindle is great - and you can also try audiobooks or libravox for classics

@cacay1 ah, thanks for the quote
It is true that reading offers opportunity for people to become educated.
It is helpful to know things - then it is even more helpful to understand what we read.
Thereafter, if we apply what we discover in a beneficial way, we display wisdom.
