Dinner under the shade on Christmas Day

On Christmas Day, we had dinner at my sister-in-law’s place. It had been a very hot day and we had our dinner outside under a very shady patio.
It was cooler than the house and it was very pleasant having drinks and nibbles, and later our meal outside. The creeper gave almost complete shade.
We had just finished dinner when our son rang from Ireland so we had a long chat with him. Our other son lives in Melbourne and we had talked to him in the morning.
I wonder if the day will come when we’ll all be together for Christmas. So many families have had their plans disrupted by the pandemic.

I'm glad you got together with some of your family, at least. Before Covid we always invited friends who had no place to go for Christmas dinner. We'd eat until we couldn't walk and then sit around telling lies until they decided to head out. I miss cooking for other people and visiting until all hours of the night.

Enjoy the coolness there. I am in fact enjoying the increased winter chill bought in by the good rains today. I had some local travel today in car.
No metro travel for some time as Covid restrictions are increased due to surge in Omicron cases.
Delhi had 331 cases yesterday and close to 500 today.
A worrying trend but in between people had also became a bit casual.
As of now, I am kind of braving the chill in layers!
By the way, anything special in Dinner?

Yes I did read about the superb 6/7 by Scott Boland. The name also sounds interesting!
England were expected to have a tough time in Australia but this is totally shocking.
Their players like Joe Root, Johnny Bairstow, allrounder Ben Stokes, Rory Burns and others are simply failing.
I think that they can ask Kevin Pietersen and Alastair Cook to come out of their retirements!!
But seriously, I do not think that Joe Root would be able to retain his test captaincy.
While I do not eat non-veg food, I think yours was a thoroughly well made and enjoyable dinner.
Have a nice time ahead.

Omicron numbers were doubling day by day in our eastern states but I don't think they can stop the spread now. All they can do is keep vaccinating people.
Did you hear of the rookie Australian bowler who took 6/7 in the third Ashes test. Poor old England. You have feel sorry for them.
For our Christmas dinner, we had smoked salmon entrees then a chicken salad and finished off with a trifle. Very enjoyable.

@JudyEv We are lucky nowadays that we can talk to our kids far from home as we have Skype, phones or messenger app. Yes, I can still remember that phone box when we called overseas. It was a very expensive call I should say.
Happy new year to you and your husband,

I am sure there will be. It really isn't the virus keeping people away as much as the hassle I guess in some cases.

@JudyEv There have been lots of cancelled flights here, and I presume people being left stranded at least for a time. Traveling just seemed to be a real hassle. I was tempted to fly up to see the family, but not if I had to deal with all that..

@snowy22315 That's happening here too - cancelled flights, charging people for first class because they're not filling the seats. Such a nightmare for those travelling.

Airfares are outrageous here for one thing and, if you go outside the state and then they close the borders it would be the pits. At the moment, if you come in from overseas, you have to quarantine in a hotel at your own expense.

I can almost feel the coolness while looking at the photo.
It must have been wonderful to hear from your younger son in Ireland.
I am afraid that many family traditional gatherings may never be again as new traditions have been started because of the pandemic. Time will tell.

@JudyEv We would like to buy a cottage in the northern part of our province, but due to the pandemic we have put that potential purchase on hold. They don't like people here going from region to region like that and up north there are fewer hospitals.

What no snow there! We had rain on Christmas where I live. Glad you enjoyed your outside weather. Yes, I've heard about your lockdowns and arrests. Sad, when all people are not trusted to behave in their best interest.

@JudyEv It seems the news about this virus and its treatment has been improving. Thank goodness for that!

That sounds like a good way of having dinner on a hot Christmas evening.
Many around the globe are waiting to be reunited with their family and friends for festivals and celebrations. We can just hope that it will happen soon.

@arunima25 And airfares at the moment seem to be outrageously expensive.

@JudyEv That's the biggest concern. Many are limiting their movements because of that. Countries might close their borders at short notices and airlines might cancel the flights. Things are so unpredictable with this virus

Wow! Apart from the cozy dinner get-together with your sis-in-law, you enjoyed a warm conversation with both your sons on the same day. How wonderful! May you soon be all spending the next Christmas together with your whole family.

a shady place to eat under a tree, seems suitable for gathering with family.
