Day 202 Psalm 106 Psalm 106:4 Remember me, O LORD, with the favor You bear unto Your people; O visit me with Your salvation; 5 That I may see the good of Your chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. How do you want to be remembered? You hope people will remember the good you did. The psalmist recounted all the evil Israel did and how God chastised them for their disobedience. He asked God to remember him with favor. He wanted to recall all the good Israel did, not their disobedience, though he gave an account of all they did since they were in Egypt. The psalmist wanted to rejoice with gladness in the God of his salvation, and glory in His inheritance. He knew the evil they did, yet hoped for his people to return to God. As Christians, you know where you came from before you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. You know the depths of your depravity in the world. You don’t want people to remember what you were before you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, but your behavior after you became His child. You want to joy in your salvation and rejoice with all those who name the name of Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Everyone has a past they want to forget. When you confess your sin, God wipes out your past. He doesn’t remind you about your past life. Psalm 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. 9 He will not always chide: neither will He keep His anger forever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them who fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pities his children, so the LORD pities them that fear Him. 14 For He knows our frame; he remembers we are dust. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When you confess your sins, God wipes the slate clean. He doesn’t bring your past to remembrance, only Satan does. He will bring you low and cause you misery until you rebuke him and stand on the promise that God will never bring your past before you or hold you accountable for it. The psalmist didn’t want God to remember his past but to show him mercy and favor and joy in his salvation. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for wiping my past clean. Help me rejoice in my salvation every day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 31 December 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay.
