Country Music Hall of Fame and former WSM (Nashville) morning show host, Ralph Emery, died Saturday morning. He was 88. A legend that will be missed.
Emery’s renown as, alternately, “the Dick Clark of country music” or “the Johnny Carson of country” was significant enough to earn him a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
..."It was the longest air shift I ever had in my life! Ten at night ‘til five in the morning is a long time to be on the radio,” Emery told PBS. “I always thought that if the Opry had died and they had taken that show off, it would have killed country music.”
He will never be replaced. Such a great voice of the past. Thoughts are with his family.
Ralph Emery is survived by his wife, Joy Emery, three sons, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

I have such fond memories of listening to Ralph Emery's taped interview show that ran 7-8 PM (eastern) on WSM...when I could hear it and the interference wasn't bad. I got to meet him a few years ago at the country music conference.
What an encyclopedia of country music he was!!!! I'm so sad. (Plus, this comes on the heels of two other deaths in country music, Jerry Crutchfield and Dallas Frazier, this week.

@CarolDM -- I know, fifteen already this month including five from various halls of fame.
A friend of mine posts my blog obits on his blog and told me I could stop writing them. I said I'd be thrilled to not write another one until, oh, October or so.
