I love that you're doing that for seniors. I was a foster mom for a rescue down here in LA for a couple years when I first moved here. I wound up keeping my very first foster (he was only 8 months old when he was assigned to me, just a small chicorgi baby, but absolutely nuts! He went through four adoption trials and kept coming back for being "too aggressive" so I kept him. I was a dog trainer so I figured I could get him into shape and he turned into a super nice dog), and then my very last dog. I stopped fostering after that because it put me at three dogs and I didn't have room for more, lol.
Anyway, that second one I kept because he was already 7-9 years old, gigantic at around 100lbs and also an American Bully, so a "problem breed" by people's standards. We had adoption events every couple weeks where the fosters would have to go sit in pens at Petco for potential adopters to walk by and check them out. Every time I dropped him off he seemed so sad and every time I picked him up the rescue volunteers would tell me no one had even looked at him. I had him for several months before I declared that if no one took him by Christmas I would take him as a forever dog. And he was so gentle and calm and sweet, I'm so glad I made that decision.
Now the funny thing is, as you know, large breeds don't tend to live very long. I thought I would have that dog for maybe two years tops, just let him live out his old age with me. Yeah, no. I had him for seven more years! That giant bear of a dog passed away last Feb at around fifteen years old! And I am just so thrilled that I was blessed with him for all that time, he was really the best dog one could hope for. All those people who passed him by really passed up a gem.
So yes, I'm an advocate for adopting out senior dogs big time. Senior doesn't mean they're ready to go in a few months time. Take care of them right and they can give you a whole doggie lifetime's worth of love!

That is wonderful! I have fostered and been in rescue for many MANY years! It's funny because I was a dog trainer as well!
I love seniors! They are wonderful pets and so full of love and gratitude. So do you still have any of your fur babies now?

@bizness I do! I still have that nutty little chicorgi no one else wanted, and then I have an ancient chihuahua who still has a lot of life left in him. He's like sixteen and still runs around like a puppy.
