Weekly Water Change

Philippines
January 22, 2022 4:31am CST
I recently bought some new male and female guppies and mollies. I also bought a new red lobster. Now there's three crayfish inside that 5 gallon tank. I've also tried to get the female molly and male guppy to breed to create a hybrid. But one of the males died in the tank because of the crayfish so I put the surviving male on the guppy male tank. For you info I have separate the male and female guppies to prevent further breeding. So two days ago I decided to have a water change hoping they won't get sick or die. Have a nice day

That's good of you to change the water so they won't die. You keep the as a pet or for eating in the future?

How many aquariums do you have? My husband has 2 in our cellar and he is busy doing something for his aquariums.

What's water filter got to do with the aquarium? if your referring to air pump and sponge filter, then I have it. I used stock water from the faucet. Not the water directly from the water faucet, because it still has chlorine.

The suggestion to have water filter and oxygenator in the response down is a good one. That will be convenient as it would reduce your work of changing the water frequently.

I already have a sponge filter and air pump @arunima25 not to mention plants thats also producing oxygen. It's all in the pictures. Once a week is not really frequently for me.

You will need to buy a water filter and oxygenator, and you will not need to change the water often.

That's nice you have plenty of tanks thee to keep your guppies and mollies. I on the other hand have only one tank to maintain weekly. I have mixed guppies and molliies too and I do not know if they have crossed breed already since in the past l saw some male guppies chasing female mollies. But since l have a male Molly and he keeps on chasing the female Mollies I think they produced mollies only although I saw that there features in some of my frys to have a yellow shade which l suspect was from my yellow guppy I used to have in my tank. But of course i am not sure if they beed successfully.

@Letranknight2015 Well if you have a food lne of breed you can make money out of it. Since you have pond you cqn have it ans sell it to your local pet shop. If l only have enough space to accommodate more tanks l am yhinking of mqking this notbonly as hobby but business.

Sometimes I envy you for just having one tank. I had one tank too @rsa101 until my brother gave me those guppies and I started multiplying my tanks. i hope this is the end of the line for me and no more adding tanks. I have separate them so i wouldn't worry much about breeding.

Female live bearing fish such as the guppies, mollies, swordtails and platies can store sperm for several months from being mated with and produce several batches of young each month or so. It is unheard of to have crosses between guppies and mollies but not impossible. You would need to start with virgin females of one species and males of the other species to be sure of hybrids. And there are many species of mollies besides the ones in the pet shops which are mostly already hybrids of different species of mollies.
