I wanted to purchase a laptop shown on Amazon.com. How safe is it to make this purchase and will i get a brand new laptop or will it be a second hand one?

As long as you purchase it as "new" then it will come new. Amazon is a huge company and as another has already said, they are too reputable to scam you like that. If they did that, they would have never lasted as long as they have. I've never had any problems with them and I have always gotten ultra fast shipping.

You didn't specify what area of Amazon you were shopping in. If you were at a product page (say, Dell), you will most certainly get a new computer, and all the data you need (price, shipping rates, tech specs, and customer reviews) is there.
If you were looking in Amazon Marketplace, that is a different story.
In short, it's safe to shop at Amazon.

I think,Amazon is too reputed to do that. But if you have any fear, you should buy things, where there is a "return clause",that is,you can return the material purchased,if you are not stisfied with the same.
