Soaking utensils before washing

When I was a little girl, I used to see my mom try to scrap some utensils before washing because of the dried food on it. So I started the habit of soaking utensils in water immediately after we serve food or finish eating.
Then 2 hours later I wash them and I'm done within 30 minutes. And I don't have to try to scratch the dirt off because soaking them helps prevent it from drying. It's easy to wash that way.

I do that for the pots and pans. Soaking makes the work easier and if it's too greasy or with tough stains, I use hot water for soaking them

Sometimes the pots /pans (we call them sufuria) take longer for the stains to come out. So I soak them overnight and wash the next day in the morning.
But now I will try soaking with hot water to see if I can wash them in less hours.

It's a BAD IDEA! That lady doesn't like washing utensils but I think she said it to attract views in her video.
It's a waste of money buying and throwing. She should keep them so we can break them while acting movies

We also used to bleach some cups so they look whiter like they were when new. It's been years since we last bleached utensils.

I fill one sink with water and let everything soak for a while before washing anything. I want to wash dirty dishes quickly and be done with the job.

@mildredtabitha Foods that make tougher stains, I cook in throw-away pans so I don't have to soak them overnight.

@DaddyEvil You mean there are throw away pans!
Washing utensils is one house chores I like doing. I wouldn't think throwing pans away

I also like doing it immediately and quickly.
Those with tougher stains I soak overnight and wash in the morning.

@mildredtabitha You must season iron skillets well before you use them, which means rubbing the insides with oil and baking them in the oven. You must do this several times before they are ready to use. If you don’t season them well food will stick.

I do that too. If our cereal bowls are really mucky I'll soak them for a while but if they're not too bad I won't bother. Same with the spoons. Usually my spoon needs a bit of a soak. When I'm filling the bowl with water I'll put all the spoons and forks straight in the bowl for a bit of a soak, but not the knives because of their sharp edges. When the bowl is full I wash the large utensils first, like wooden spoons and large knives, to give the other spoons and forks time to soak.

I like your method of washing.
I always start with plates, then cups, then spoons and knives and finally the cooking pan/pot (we call them sufuria).
If I don't want to soak, I always make sure to wash immediately we finish eating.

@mildredtabitha I always start with cutlery and then go on to plates, then cups and bowls and lastly recyclable items.

Pots and frying pans really do need more attention compared to other types of dishes.

I always soak my pots and pans in dishwashing liquid before cleaning. Another tip is to sprinkle salt on the dried food or a paper towel and wipe. The abrasive salt easily rubs away stubborn burnt on food.

Wow! Thank you for sharing this tip. You just reminded me that some people at my rural home use ashes to wash the pots so it becomes clean and shiny. I might try it out with salt

I think lesser than 2 hours will peel away the stubborn stains from pots, pans, thicker bowls and etc. I'm particular about smell too, so there's got to be a nice lemon smell after I wash the utensils.

We have a green liquid soap that not only makes the dishes clean but eradicates all food smell too.
Do you soak them in lemon water after washing?

I usually rinse off my dishes and utensils and then put them in the dishwasher. Soaking does make washing a lot easier if you don't have a dishwasher
