Have body will suffer

Among the Indian people there is a saying " deh dhare ka dand". It can be roughly translated into, have body will be punished. Whether you like it or not our bodies will suffer pain some time or other. It may be physical or mental. Until a few days before it was very cold. The sun was not visible. It was a time when people suffered the pains of cold weather. In fact, seniors are known to die this time of the year.. Now that winter is on the way out, I'm sure it will be less and less cold in the coming days. But , summer has its own woes too.

Luckily we don't have real extremes of weather here but the heat and cold still affect some adversely.

@franxav That's true and we're not too close to the equator either.

I guess you live not too far from the sea . That saves you from extreme weather conditions.

I disagree. I'd rather have heat and a swimming pool than cold and big, bulky, uncomfortable clothes.

Maybe, "have body, will be taught painful lessons through it", is better, as punishment does not dwell well with me. When we get sick, some say it is our karma coming back to get us, and to punish us in that way. I prefer to think that life is ongoingly just life, and that all helps us to grow in that life, and that punishment is more just a label, that we could relabel it as a 'learning opportunity", as all experiences give us the chance to learn something new from them, both good and bad experiences too. I think like this because, in life, we should do whatever keeps our own boat afloat, so keeping beliefs that help us to do this is a good idea, especially if others want to change our beliefs, with their own ideas, and so which tend to only place holes in our boat, and so cause it to start sinking for us then too. Seeing stuff as punishment, rather than as learning opportunities, tends to puncture our sails, putting holes in our boat, and does not help us in our endeavour to keep sailing forwards, with our own boat afloat. I do not, therefore, believe in the idea of punishment.

I agree with you in looking at life with positive attitude. Taking such pains as learning opportunities rather than punishment is good way of living.

@franxav Yes, if we do not try to see the positive in our pains, we might get depressed by them instead.

@pbashton For me, l do not see any benefit for myself in seeing anything as an illusion. I would rather see our body, and mind, as being tools of our soul. Tools are useful, but they do not last forever. Experiences are all real enough, but when we see them through the eyes of our soul, with the love in our hearts attached too, we see fully, rightly, rather than only seeing part way, which might seem to be an iliusion, but to me is more our just not seeing the whole truth, as yet.

The first of the four Noble Truths that Buddha taught is "Life is Suffering".
