What I eat can either heal me or kill me

I had to learn that the hard way long time ago, so now I'm always careful with what goes in to my mouth.
Some people can get away with their guilty pleasures. Not me. So processed sugars, artificial sweeteners, refined oils, highly processed foods and fast foods are a thing of the past for me. Haven't touched any junk food in a long time, and don't miss any of it either.
Whatever goes into my stomach is strictly for nutrition and disease prevention purposes. Of course, I enjoy what I eat and I don't feel deprived in any way.
I think after a while of clean eating, you reach a certain point where your taste buds can reset and enjoy all that's good and healthy.
The photo is what I had today as part of my OMAD meal (One Meal a Day fasting regimen).
Edit: the photo is not uploading. I get errors, will check that out in a bit.
Edit 2: forgot to resize it lol. All good now.
Are you health conscious? Any history with diseases that got you to be more mindful of your diet?

I have a lot of food allergies.
I also hate a lot of food.
However, I only have a few food that make me extremely ill, so I don't eat those.
I use a food that I know the reaction to to counter the reaction of another food. I know that sounds weird, even my allergist thought it was interesting and I later heard he suggested it to others with many, but not severe reactions. Of course, he isn't doing it now since he passed in 2004.
The one food I can not tolerate at all is corn protein. Of course that means corn oil, corn meal/flour, corn starch or anything that has them in them. This includes many medications in tablet form. Two of my medicines I have to take in liquid and all antibiotics when I get sick. I also have a nasal spray for my migraine medication. Some of these taste pretty bad.
I haven't dumped all the bad foods, but I'm 68 so... I do rotate my meats. I can eat beef once a week, same with pork and lamb - I have to say that I pretty much only get lamb about once every two months when I'm lucky. I can eat chicken and turkey somewhat more often, but since my wife has been in the hospital I really haven't cooked much eating chocolate peanut butter sandwiches or some kind of soup.
As for my wife, well, she's been in the hospital since November 1st.

@healerWitch it is her blood pressure. If she isn't less than at a 30º angle, her blood pressure drops. They are maxing out her meds just to keep it in a 'normal' range while she's mostly flat.

@ElicBxn I see. I hope the doctors figure it out.

That must have been hard dealing with all the allergies.
I don't find it weird at all about food reactions with other foods, I've experienced the same when I had irritable bowel syndrome (for which I was forced into a low FODMAP diet for years before I figured out how to fix it).
November? That's quite a long time. What got her into hospital if you don't mind me asking? Is there any official diagnosis from the doctors?

I agree with everything you said above. I'm on a macrobiotic diet, and I discovered it after reading a book by Dirk Benedict of A-Team fame called Confessions of a Kamakaze Cowboy. It tells how he cured himself of cancer by diet alone. He cut out all meat, dairy, eggs, sugar and processed foods and embraced a macrobiotic diet. There are some strange foods (well, not really strange, but unknown to me until then) that I've discovered since being on this diet, like daikon which is like a Japanese white radish, and I've found out how good seaweed is for you!

@healerWitch Yes, that's so true. If everyone embraced a healthy diet the NHS would be out of business! Well, no. They'd still have the A&E dept cos a healthy diet won't stop you having accidents!

Wow that's amazing! I've heard good things about seaweed.
Meat helps with my ADHD (the tyrosine amino acid that is responsible for neurotransmitter production is more bio-available through meat) and fermented dairy has helped me cure my Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation. I take everything organic, grass fed etc as they are more nutrient-dense and without all those carcinogenic chemicals and endocrine disruptors.
I personally believe processed sugar, artificial sweeteners and industrialized (processed) food products are the cause for at least 90% of the world's diseases. If we could just work on prevention with proper diet and exercise, doctors and big pharma would be out of business.

@sharonelton yes indeed, doctors would only be needed for injuries and surgeries.

@healerWitch I live in Switzerland, but I am Italian, I mainly eat fish, vegetables and fruits, very little meat. You have delicious fish in your country.

@LadyDuck the Mediterranean diet is amazing. Indeed here we have good fish and at an affordable price. I would often start my day with sardines, or add tuna to my salad. And these filets of salmon, hake, cod etc are super easy when all you have to do is throw them in the oven.
Switzerland and Italy, beautiful countries. I should visit them some time.

I should be more health conscious, but unfortunately I’m not. I eat way too much junk food, processed foods, and fast food. My only redemption is that I drink water all day long and snack on fruit all day long.

@healerWitch In addition to the fruits I eat all day, I also love snacking on almonds, pecans and walnuts. At least it’s not potato chips and candy bars! Lol

@moffittjc those are my 3 favorite nuts! And yes I agree, better have those than candy bars and potato chips.

My solution to that was cutting out sugar cold-turkey. There were withdrawal symptoms for about 2 weeks, then after that I didn't care for junk foods anymore. I found even some fruits make me hungrier than normal. Try to fill up on protein and healthy fats instead, it will stop the cravings.

Looks yummy. I have become careful too about my diet since last few years when pandemic started. I don't eat fast food often, very occasionally. I eat home cooked fresh meal as at home. It's very important indeed to maintain a good health. I thought eat my favourite meals on weekend as a cheat day but in moderation and portion control way

Hello there and welcome to myLot. Your discussion is interesting. Honestly speaking I try my best to eat healthy and what I really avoid now is sweets. My father told me that we have a history of diabetes and heart attack on my fathers side and arthritis on my mother's side. So even though I am on a heavy side, I try to make it a point that I have physical activity that can make me sweat and exercise , I eat anything but on a controlled way and I try to drink lots of water too .

Thank you. Your family history sounds like mine, and I was heading there myself with hypertension and prediabetes (among other things). I've reversed everything and I'm healthy now.
I'm proud of you. You're doing well, keep it up. With exercise and proper diet, we can prevent (and even treat) most chronic diseases.

I agree, these are simple guidelines that anyone can follow regardless of location and financial status. In fact, I've even saved money since I started this regimen. It certainly works for me. Even my daughter's autism has improved since I cleaned up her diet as well.
