My husband hates celebrating specific days. He believes every day is special so he tries to dissuade me from buying him any V-Day gifts and yet I try to do something special. What do you suggest? Should I just let it go this time? Or do something special but keep it simple?

We keep special days simple although we do celebrate them. I want my loved ones to be kind and considerate every day, not just on special occasions.

If this helps, I've been married for 13 years and we never celebrated Valentine's day nor our anniversaries for the same reason, every day with each other is special. We are there for each other and do kind gestures as needed throughout the year, without spending money on unnecessary (and often useless) gifts. We get to save money for traveling and things we both enjoy and can make use of at the right time.

Do something special, but keep it simple. Try to throw him off by doing it earlier/later then the actual day, too. Perhaps that'll help.

This is a tough one to answer without being straight up about it. My question is what kind of a man does not know that Valentines Day is a very special day to a lady. Not to me of course, I am done with the love scene, but if you are in a relationship or married, it seems very harsh that you could not get some little acknowledgement. Sorry, but that is how I see it. Surely some little gift is not that much money..very small price.
