Anyone else annoyed with the idea of book summaries?

I've tried 2 apps to see what the fuss was all about (Blinkist and Storyshots) and I absolutely hated the experience. I even thought it might be a good way to discover new books I would enjoy reading, but it does the opposite, it ruins it for me. Even if I like the message, I hate it that I didn't discover it by reading the actual book, word for word. I like taking my time with these things and be pleasantly surprised with the bits of wisdom I gather from each book, as I have with the "Works of Hippocrates" and David Goggin's "Can't Hurt Me" (2 of the 4 books I finished in 2021). And some people who actually use these apps daily boast that they feel smarter with these apps because they think they got all the wisdom they need in 15 minutes. The whole concept just seems weird to me. Do you feel the same way?

I totally agree with you. I won't even read the blurb inside the cover because I don't want to learn anything before I read the book.

Yes exactly, I am the same way. I don't want to know anything beforehand. Let me be surprised.

I've never heard of those aps but I like to read a book properly. I do read the book cover first to see what it's about but I don't want a whole summary.

I have never tried it, but it's not for everyone. Under the right circumstances, I could see where it might have its place. After all it seems to target those who perfer to skim read, and takes out the guess work of doing so. If you enjoy reading a book word-for-word, by all means, do so.

Very true. We all have different desired ways of absorbing knowledge and I'm glad I discovered mine early before I've gone through too many summaries. Needless to say I've uninstalled both those apps, and staying with my Scribd subscription.

It's convenient to those people who only want to look through the book quickly, but i really hate those Summaries who give me the spoiler before i reading. That's too suck.It deprives the rights of mine to find the surprise in the book.

Yes, exactly!!! You hit the nail on the head. The spoilers are what ruins it for me.
