Just in Time for the Winter Olympics

First, I ventured out to make my ophthalmologist appointment before the freezing rain arrived. Home now and it’s not quite freezing, yet.
Most importantly, lol, the photo is of our precious Ice Princess.
She and her family have been up at Lake Placid, New York for several days now for her figure skating competition. She is standing in front her hotel, and had been practicing on Mirror Lake. It was frozen solid, but rough to skate on. It’s a tradition with her. I got a sneak peak of her routine.
She skated at 2 this afternoon. She placed, and her coach was thrilled with her performance. She’s considered a new Intermediate figure skater according to the United States Women’s Figure Skating Association.
Tonight, she has another skate at 7 sharp! I’m a very nervous grammy.

Thank you! We are watching the opening ceremony, too, but unfortunately, our granddaughter doesn’t want to train 24/7 for the Olympics. She prefers summer camp. However, she loves skating and trains daily at Montclair College from 8:00 to 5:00. She does online schooling there, too, between practices and coaching.

No, not in the Olympics at all. Every year, except for last year due to covid, she skates at Lake Placid, where once the Olympics was held. It’s where the figure skating season officially opens.
She wore her old skates and Mirror Lake was completely frozen. Her family was right there with her. I agree with you. She said that the ice was bumpy in places and didn’t feel like “real” ice.

Great accomplishments by your grand Daughter!
But I could not relate the reference to the Winter Olympics.
They are being held in China, right?

Lol! Thanks for your kind wishes, but I doubt she’ll beat everyone by taking first place. She’s still a newbie to this level compared to the others. She still hasn’t been taught a double axel which is something to do during that level. Her sit spins and other jumps are super along with her artistry which help.

I think it's so awesome that she continues to skate and continues to do well. I really do hope to see her on tv in future high level skating competitions!

@DianneN That's a normal thing with kids as they mature into teenagers. They want to spend more time with their friends and doing fun things. Hopefully she'll power through that stage and continue with her skating career.

That is very true, but she crossed being in the Olympics off her list awhile ago. She’d rather have a normal life - high school, summer camp, friends, etc. However, she loves skating and will continue. She had a wonderful skate last night!!!

@DianneN Well, that's her choice and one should respect it. Normal life is priceless. She has made a wise choice in her own way

She’s not interested in the Olympics anymore, because she values a normal life more. However, she absolutely loves skating and performing, so she’s very happy. That’s all that matters to us. Thanks! She did extremely well in her second competition last night.
