My posterior feels peculiar!

I was going to write that my bum felt odd but I thought non-British readers would be confused.
Nowadays I do have a job that involves sitting at home in front of the computer, but even so I don’t sit still for extended periods. Normally I sit for maybe half an hour before getting up to make a drink, then do a bit more work before getting up again to put food out for the birds, scare away the pesky squirrel, water the plants, hang up the washing, get something out of the freezer to cook later, or else I take a break to do a bit of gardening, cycle to the shop or perhaps visit a friend. So I don’t have to just sit for hours on end.
Yesterday though was different. I took a day to visit a friend who has cancer.
First I sat at the computer for an hour or so to attend to a couple of work things, and also to check my route.
Then I got in the car and drove two and a half hours to the south coast where the friend lives.
Then we sat in her lounge for an hour or so.
Then I helped her to do a couple of errands before coming back and sitting chatting for another five hours (apart from a short break to help clean her kitchen).
Then I got back in the car and drove home, which took three hours because of some road closures.
By the time I got home my bottom was not feeling at all normal, almost numb really from all that sitting.
Since then I’ve obviously had a night’s sleep, walked Little One to school and been moving around much of the morning. I've tried wriggling about, massaging the muscles, but things still don’t feel normal today.
I don’t know how so many people can just spend their days sitting down, it looks as though it’s going to take me another day to recover from just one day of this! I’m going outside shortly to do some more physical work and hope that helps!
By the way that's not me in the photo : )

I read that sitting for many hours daily makes the butt grow bigger

You certainly spent a good few hours sitting on that particular day. Vince has a new smart phone affair that records his heart rate amongst other things. Every half hour it tells him he needs to move around (that's if he'd been sitting at the computer).

There are yoga poses that can help provide some relief, such as reclined pigeon, cat cow, child's pose, shoe lace pose, bridge, happy baby, head to knee, knees to chest, reclined hero etc.
I hate siting down for long periods of time myself. I often take breaks from work by doing push ups and pull ups (I work from home), or some planks, or some quick 10 minute yoga sessions.
Yoga has been a lifesaver.

@MALUSE right before my hysterectomy, I read up on it, and found some horror stories in the forums, and I didn't want things like heart disease, diabetes, sarcopenia and osteoporosis to catch up with me at this young age, so I guess I kinda went overboard with the exercise.
I thought it would also help with my social anxiety, but nope. Didn't do much there. Maybe I need something more brutal like martial arts or something for that.

Glad that is not you in the photo. lol My mother is always fussing about me sitting at the computer all day. She is always saying I should get up every hour and move around the house. Yesterday I did some yoga, but I found out I need a thicker yoga mat now.

Me too! LOL
Hate to tell you this, but your mother is right! As I was just saying in response to another comment, building up bone mass (and also muscle) is so important to stay healthy for longer - like saving for a pension only more important! I used to work on bone disease so I have a bit of a 'thing' about it. One of my friends has developed osteoporosis - she's not even 'old' (she's 51) and she has four fractured vertebrae which means she has constant pain in her upper back and she's shrunk and developed a 'dowager's hump'. She looks like the archetypal 'little old lady' and I'm shocked! I think she must have had it for some time already because a few years ago she broke her leg doing something quite ordinary and that took ages to mend, she was in a wheelchair for quite a while and I suspect she should have had a bone scan then but as far as I know she wasn't checked and now the problem is really serious. Get some weight-bearing exercise every day!!

I have fairly active job. At home I sit too much. I keep telling hubby that is half of what is wrong with him.

I don't like sitting for too long myself. I work for a bit, run up and down the stairs a few times putting things away, tending to things in the other part of the house, and then sit for a bit again. When I have to sit in the car for a long time I try to go for a good long walk when I arrive to work out the kinks.

Well it is now accepted that moving about is good for you, in fact it is better to keep moving throughout the day than to sit at a desk all day then spend an hour working out in the gym. People think that certain jobs are 'dangerous' and desk jobs are easy, but in fact they come with significant risks to health and employers need to recognise that!
