Another use for my old pot lids

Yesterday I got in the mood for something sweet and deside to cook a cake. About a month ago I had bought a red velvet cake mix, but I never made it because I had threw my round cake pans away since they were real old and everything stuck.
Since I didn't have any round cake pans, I made do with something else.
Some of you may remember the Miracle Maid cookware from way back. We bought the set from my brother-in-law who was selling them, kind of like how they go around and demonstrate different types of vacuum cleaners at your home. We bought the whole set, along with the dishes, silverware, electric fryer and roaster. This was back in 1973, not long after I got married. After all these years, I still have a few of the pots. Two of the pots are 8 ins around and the lids are shaped like a round cake pan, so that's what I desided to cook my cake in.
The only thing that I had to do was unscrew the handle for the top. I rubbed a little grease on the bottom and them placed them on a bowl in order to feel them. The cake layers came out nice and didn't stick at all. The lids are made out of the same thing as the pots, with some type of coating.
Hopefully one day though, I will remember to buy my new cake pans while I'm out shopping. My trouble is, I don't ever think about it until I'm getting ready to bake a cake, which isn't that often.

Thank you. The cake was good, I really have eaten to much of it, good thing I don't cook them very ofter, I'd be as a house that much all the time. I've almost ate half of that cake since last night!

It's amazing you were able to do that and the lids didn't get damaged in the oven or ruin your cake.

You are right, it was greaat that I was able to take the handle off and that the lid has that coating on it. I really wasn't worried if it would have damaged them though, I've used the pots for so long that theiri about worn out, the only thing that is still in good shape are the lids.

Old pans and cookware are better than some of it made today. I still use an electric skillet that my husband had before we were married in the 80s. It still works fine.

I agree with you, I wish I still had that electric skillet from back then. I don't know whatever happen to it, I know I used it for many years.
