I was watching to news last night and they was talking to a woman that had donated blood.
The woman's name is Brenda Montgomery from Lake City South Carolina. She been donating blood since 1993 as has donated over 10 gallons of blood so far. So she has given blood over 80 times so far, wow!
She said when they tested her blood, they found out she had a rare antigen in it, so she is now on the rare blood donor list. Montgomery said. “And when I found that out I was like, hey you know what I am special! I’m donating blood to help people but then I also have something special in my blood that will help another group of people.” (Quoted from an article I found on it today)
You can donate every 56 days, and Montgomery goes as much as she can. She usually goes four times a year and is aiming for five donations this year.
While I was online I thought it would be interesting to read about some other people who has donated a lot. Here are just a few of them:
Lillian Bloodworth from Gulf Breeze Florida has donated 23 gallons of blood. She started donating in 1966 and donated blood until she finally had to stop when she was 85. The article was from 2020
there are some articles has given 70 gallons and some even higher then that. These are the people that donate their platelets. As quoted from the artical in the Denver Post :"These donations, which can be done every other week, are essential for cancer therapy, open-heart surgery, blood disorders and organ transplants.
Platelet donations are particularly needed because they have a much shorter shelf life than other blood donations. Platelets last only five days, where whole blood donations last 42 days and plasma donations can keep for a year, Lambert said."
As of 2018 a woman named Chris Orr has donated 70 gallons since 1976
Arthur Maxwell from Oakland Calif. has donated a total of 50 gallons, he has a very rare blood type, so he feels he needs to donate to help others that may need this rare blood type.
One other one that I read about was Victor Gorday from Florida. He has been donating his blood since 1978 and on Dec 15th of last year he donated his 125 gallon of blood.
This is just a few out of so many that donates, I want to say thank you to whoever donates.
I think it is so great that there are those that donate this much. I have donated, but nothing compared to any of these.
How do you feel about donating blood, or do you donate?

I understand what your saying, I guess it's that way with anything that they know people need. There's always greedy people out there always wanting to make a buck.

This is true especially in this African countries, where you donate blood and then later a patient in need of blood has to buy it. Actually its disgusting and I don`t donate blood because of such reasons.

@sweetashoney Yes, I'm fine. The cancer was surgically removed years ago. Thanks.
I'm still not allowed to donate blood, though. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil I'm glad to hear that you are doing fine. Always keep in mind though, you were willing to give and gave for as long as you were able to. I think that's great!

many years ago I donated about once or twice a year. Then, I got cancer in 1994 and of course could never donate again.
I wish I still could.
I say thank you to those that do

@sweetashoney had it 3 times already. I guess it stays in the blood so once you've had it you can never again give life saving blood

@bunnybon7 My sister had cancer back in the 70's, they would tell her that she no long had cancer, then it seemed like the next time she went back they had found more. Thank goodness that research for cancer treatment has come a long ways since back then.

I would think that they needed a lot of donations for that.

I think I was in my late 20's the first time I donated blood. I don't know how much I have donated, it's a small amount compared to those that I wrote about. The reason I donated the first time is because they came to the plant where I worked at asking for donations, so after that, each time they came I would donate, I think they came around about 1 maybe 2 times a year.

I believe those that can should. I personally don't. I have a lot of health complications and a possible hidden genetic disorder. I would've wasted my time, put myself through the anxiety and pain, and wasted the time of the person drawing my blood. It's not worth it. I would not want to do that, and not know if it can be used or not. Or, someone not do their job when handling it, and now someone else is sick.

Don't know what happened, but I commented and I see it is no longer here. In your case it very much understandable why you wouldn't want to donate. Some people just can't donate blood, even if they want to, I think there are a lot of different reason why some people can't donate blood.

That's the way it had always been for me. I used to donate back when I was working and they would come and I would donate then, I never went to the place where you donate at to give any though.

Wanita luar biasa...

That's great that you are doing that, so you have also giving a lot of blood to. I know you have to feel good about helping those that need it.
