Does anyone own a pet with a disability? I have a dog who is deaf. She is so sweet. She is extremely hyper, but very affectionate. I am having trouble though getting her to understand commands because she has to see my hand movements. Also, I worry about her getting hurt or scared if someone pulls into the yard and doesn't know she is deaf.
Any recommended resources for working with deaf animals?

Thats interesting, I would imagine just trust them. That goes a long way and they usually better at it than we are anyway with dealing with circumstances like that. That being said not sure about resources, look for youtube videos maybe of dealing with deaf dog and how they do it.
Seeing how it works always makes me understand better.

Sorry but I really can't help. I know they can learn hand signals but, as you say, they need to be able to see them. Would she feel vibrations if you, say, clapped your hands near her?

I don't have and have not had one with that. But I have heard that albino animals are often deaf. I bet it's the white one? I hope you can find help with that. They are so cute.

I don´t have much experience but I do know that pets (as human beings) acquire some dissabilities with age. BTW dogs have a much better olfatory sense that human beings so maybe that compensates in part deafness.
