I made ginger biscuits this morning

I made ginger biscuits/cookies this morning and they turned out quite well. The recipe said to roll them into balls then press them down with a fork. But picking up a small portion with my fingers didn’t work. The dough just stuck to my fingers so in the end I just put small spoonfuls on the baking tray. I had to dip the prongs of the fork into some flour; otherwise the prongs stuck to the dough too. When I did the third trayful, I forgot about pressing them down. They are all different sizes too but at least people will know they are homemade rather than store-bought. They taste okay which surely is the main thing.

I heard about ginger biscuits now only. Ginger is widely used for cooking purpose but not tried in cookies.

There are various recipes on the net but this one is: 110g butter 110g golden syrup 110g caster sugar (3.8 ozs) 225g self raising flour (8 ozs) 3 tsp ground ginger Method Preheat oven to 180ºC Melt the butter, golden syrup and caster sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix thoroughly. Roll into small balls and flatten with a fork. Bake for 10-12 minutes

Ginger is good for you too. I love to have ginger tea in the morning. Never attempted to bake the cookies though.. Do you grater the natural ginger and blend it when making the cookies or you use ginger powder?

I am very curious to ginger cookies since I haven't tried them before. It sounds to be very attractive. When I made cookies before, I used a cookie mould and it was quite useful to make various kinds of cookies and they looked professional. It is also efficient to use it to make cookies. Perhaps next time you can try it

@JudyEv If they are like cookies, then it shall not be problem. I used the cookie mould like a pump and it won't have the problem you mentioned. It looks like the attached photo.

That's a good idea but I think the dough would stick to the cutter just like it did to my fingers.

@youless With such a device, the cookies would all be the same shape and size. That's a very nice little appliance.

Sometimes you can just add a little more flour and they won’t be so sticky. Other times putting them in the fridge for a half hour before you go to roll them helps. Them tasting okay is the most important thing.

@JudyEv if you use margarine instead of butter that makes a difference as well.

@JudyEv - They look delicious. I have read enough British books to realize that what you call biscuits is what we call cookies! No matter what you call them, though, I'm sure they are yummy!

@JudyEv - Personally, I have only rarely eaten biscuits and gravy, but it is different than what you imagine. Biscuits in America are more like fresh little individual loaves of baked bread. They are not sweet. So, it is more similar to dipping a little warm bread in gravy. They are nothing at all like what you call biscuits and we call cookies, which are sweet and usually crispy.

@DeborahDiane I've sorted out the difference now. Your biscuits are very similar to our scones and I could eat them with a meat meal quite easily.

@JudyEv Home made ones are better as we can control the quality of the ingredients. Outside food can often have lower quality raw materials.
