My son got married on October 11, 2020, and he and his wife received the wedding gift that I made for them on their first anniversary. Yes, I am a bit slow, but this is a queen size quilt that I quilted by hand. Theoretically, I could have done it in less time, but I would have had to clean the bloodstains off of the quilt. Handquilting is hard on my fingers and stitching for more than an hour a day was not wise. This photo was taken on October 8, 2021 right before I packed the quilt into a vinyl mailer and shipped it express to my son’s home in Florida. I came home from dropping the package at the post office and looked at the photo to bask in the feeling of accomplishment that comes with the conclusion of a major project. I looked at the photo and had to laugh as I saw an error that I had not noticed before. Once I noticed the error the first time that is what I see every time I look at the photo. Too bad I didn’t see it when I took a photo of the flimsy (the quilt top) before I started hand-stitching the layers together. My slightly-OCD youngest daughter noticed the mistake, but if my son and his wife have seen it, they have been gracious enough to not mention it. Can you see it? It is not a small error!

You mean that some of the squares are shifted? If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have looked twice at the design. It's a beautiful piece of work, in my opinion.

Bingo! If there was greater colour contrast it would be far more visible. Thank you, I am quite proud of it. It is the largest hand quilted project to date for me. And likely I will never hand quilt something that big again!

@SophiaMorros I'd be proud of making something that intricate, too. You're welcome.

I can't pick it but I'm a bit gobsmacked that you were home-schooling this lad not all that long ago (or so it seems) and now you're saying he's married. Maybe I took forty winks for a year or two.

I think he had already finished his secondary education when I was writing on Bubblews. But yeah, my children have grown up since we first "met."

I can see the error but to be honest it's barely noticeable if you don't nit pick on it. Your tremendous effort is what counts most. I'm sure your son and his wife appreciates it.

But what is the error you see? When I look at the photo I see a few design flaws in the corners that look like errors, but actually aren't. The real error is definitely an error...if I had seen it before quilting I would have corrected it. I am not particularly bothered by the error...but I do think it is important to recognize where I have gone wrong in order to learn what to watch for in the future.

No, I don’t see it. I love the blue and the pattern, and I’d just be happy to have it. Especially considering that it’s handmade and not bought in a store.

I love the blue and aqua together. I really enjoyed making it and had to get creative to get a photo of it. I pushed all the furniture out of the way in our great room, spread it on the floor and took the photo from up in the loft.

I have to say that I was so taken back when I initially looked at the photo, and I literally just enjoyed looking at it before reading the post. I went thru the quilt, and although I am not sure, I may see something in the bottom row on the third square from the left. Regardless, it is stunning and I am sure they will enjoy the warmth that the quilt will provide.

Starting with the second block in the second row from the bottom every block is a quarter turn off. The dark side of the stars leans left instead of right. My son's wife and I have similar taste in colour. I really enjoyed making this even though hand quilting took nearly 10 months.
