Thinking you won't get caught

My discussion about my grandson missing school got me to thinking about the one time that my sisters and I played hooky. I grew up during the 60's near Sanford Flordia out in the country. Back then it was so pretty, there were plenty of forest and orange groves everywhere. The nearest store from our house was about a mile away. I don't know if it's still like this, but back then the highschool kids and the grammerschool kids didn't ride the same bus. The highschool kids were picked up first and then grammer school kids were picked up. Well one day my oldest sister talked us into playing hooky. I think I was in about the 4th or 5th grade at the time. I remember my mom was still in the bed, so we waited til the last bus came and then we ran to the woods down the street from our house. We played in a clearing in the woods for a long time and then walked to the store and bought some stuff to eat with our lunch money. After this we played around some more and then started getting bored. My sister wasn't paying attention to what time it was, so when she seen the bus she told us that we could go home now. So all of us headed home. As you may have guess by now we got caught! When we got to the door my mother ask "why are ya'll home so early" and just as we were saying "school got out early" our bus pulled up! lol You better believe, we didn't play hooky anymore!

It is, isn't, at the time when we get in trouble for it, we don't think it's funny then but we sure can laugh about it when we get grown.

@Tina30219 That's why my sister thought we wouldn't get caught, sometimes my mother would get up but a lot of times she stayed in bed.

@sweetashoney I am sure you did. My mom was always up and watched me get ready and on the bus in the morning.

No thank you that I would ever play hooky when I was living in the former Canal Zone in Panama. That was a no no in my family home.

@Deepizzaguy That's a long time, that's like me, I moved from Florida to South Carolina back in the early 70's. Where I live reminds me of where I grew up in Florida, before it got so overgrown.
