If I didn’t know better I would say that my daughter was born with a pencil in her hand (she was not. Trust me; I was there.)
She has always been a doodler and her drawing abilities surpassed mine by the time she was three years old (no she was not a child prodigy, I am just not very good at drawing). Over the years she has filled many sketchbooks and whenever she has to take notes her margins are filled with quick sketches of the speaker, the person sitting in front of her, a random stranger across the room.
She has an Instagram account where she shares some of her artwork. Even though I have seen her abilities grow and develop over the years I am still regularly amazed by her abilities.
Today’s image is courtesy of my daughter and is shared with her permission.

That’s a lovely drawing. And quite peaceful…makes me want to get my hiking gear out. (But the cold weather says “wait until spring.”)
As for her not being born with a pencil in her hand, could you actually see that????

I may not have actually seen it...but I'm pretty sure I would have felt it! She's made me want to go hiking as well. She doesn't work on Tuesday so I might have to rearrange my schedule so I can kidnap her and spend some time outside! The image above was from a photo she took at Grayson highlands in the summer. This is one from the same Virginia State Park in the winter.

@SophiaMorros Our son (48) was a starving musician in Ireland till he needed a loan to buy a house and the banks wouldn't lend on an 'itinerant's' wage. He has just landed a 'regular' admin job but in the music field so he's pretty happy.

@JudyEv my daughter knew from the start that a painting career was not likely to support her from the get-go. Getting an art degree was a questionable choice since she did not want to go into graphic design. However, she was smart enough to get through her program with no student loans so thankfully she doesn't have any debt weighing her down.

She has a Bachelor of Art in painting and plans to go to grad school at some point. Right now she is a "starving" artist, working another job to pay the bills.

It's digital painting. Most of her art is digital right now since it saves a ton of money on art supplies (oil paint is expensive), is portable and healthier for her as well (artists wallow in a lot of unhealthy chemicals).

I'm good at following a pattern. She's good at creating from scratch.

Thank you! She illustrated a children's book a couple of years ago, and ultimately that is her dream job: illustrator.
