Do you ever see something and wonder if the people know what their doing?
My neighbor across the road is having sod/turf put in his yard. Now I really don't know anything about laying sod except for what I have read or watched on the internet, but from what I learned from these places, it says that the ground needs to be prepared before you lay down the sod, like putting top soil down.
Another thing, I wouldn't think you would want to leave it on the pallets for days before you layed it down. Four pallets full sit in their yard for at least 4 days before they started laying it down, I know it had to be all dried out by then. The dirt in our area is real sandy, all they did is just watered it a little bit and just tossing the sod down. Since he only had enough to do only half of the front yard he had to have some more delivered, four more pallets is sitting in his yard, they have been there for 3 days now. The temperatue for the last two days has gotten to 86, I know that heat can't be good for that grass on them pallets.

Well, I don't know. I guess you will have to wait and see if it takes.

@sweetashoney I know from previous experience using sod isn't as easy as it seems.

@snowy22315 That's what I was thinking to, it seems like there would be more to it then just throwing it on the ground like their doing.

It sounds like the neighbor is doing everything possible to make his lawn fail. You're correct about soil preparation. You're correct about leaving sod on pallets for days in the heat. They obviously don't know what they're doing.
However, the sod may still take. It's pretty resilient.
I worked at a Home Depot and they kept pallets of sod for a time but even in moderate temperatures, the quality suffered.
They discontinued storing pallets and gave the rest of the sod to employees. It was dried out and some of the grass was dormant and brown. I took two pallets and filled in patches and low spots in my backyard. I didn't do much prep work and the sod was on pallets for at least two weeks but it took just the same.

Hopefully is will live, I know it sure was brown when he was laying it down though.
