Yesterday when I announced this countdown of songs with “money” in the title I had a few people say they couldn’t think of a single song. Now that the countdown is beginning your memory will be refreshed, hopefully. Let’s get the money on the table with the first song on the list.
#10: She Works Hard for the Money - Donna Summer
The 70s disco queen reinvented herself in 80s, having hits such as this one and the duet with Musical Youth, “Unconditional Love.” It was that ability to move on past “Love to Love You Baby” that kept her fresh.
And made me willing to forgive her for covering “MacArthur Park.”
She was more than a one-trick pony. We can argue whether she should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (she was inducted in 2013, the year after she died from lung cancer). I don’t think her talent is disputable.
She Works Hard for the Money
Written by Donna Summer and Michael Omartian
Recorded by Donna Summer
From She Works Hard for the Money, 1983
She’s seen her bad times:

I remember a saying (long before the meme days): “To be considered half as good as a man a woman has to work twice as hard. Fortunately, this is not difficult.”

Yes! Like this song and love the 70s and disco. I actually love MacArthur Park.

The only version of it I like is Waylon Jennings’ rendition. Yes, he did it. Scary, ain’t it.

@LindaOHio — I would link it for you, but you’re suffering enough with the quarters and dimes part of the countdown.

@FourWalls Really? I wouldn't have thought it could be sung "country style".

Here's one with money in the title. The name of it is "For the Love of Money" by The O' Jays in 1973. This is the one that keeps repeating "money, money, money .....money" . To me it's a catchy song.

I understand that. See BarBara’s comment. Any woman works hard for the money.

Not a fan of Disco, but the Queen scored a big hit with this one. All inspired by seeing a bathroom attendant taking a nap because she was working two jobs. Guess "she worked hard for the money."
