very true - they seem to just take these days- you dont even get free plastic gifts in cereal now in case someone chokes on one

There is a saying...
Give people more than they expect and soon people will expect more.
It would actually be a bad business strategy. Costs would go up, profits would go down and people would expect more.
Soon, there would be no more business.

wouldnt you become more loyal to the good ones and send more customers,thereby increasing their turnover rather than never going back again or trying a different place everytime

It may be true for some business, like a restaurant or cafe but generally speaking, the bottom line is most important.
Stockholders care only about a return on their investment. It costs more to give more.

It would be, but then that's how some businesses lose money, then their quality suffers because they don't make a profit.
