I May Have Picked Up a Second Surprise Job

So most of you who read my stuff are aware that I got offered a dog training job just a few days ago. Well this afternoon I got an email from a company I applied to over a month ago now. The job? Writing features about movies and television shows with a big online publisher. Guys. I LOVE film. I moved to LA to be part of the industry. I used to write for entertainment blogs for free just because it was fun. And now I have a chance to do it while getting paid for it! I really thought they bypassed me since it's been so long since I applied, but I'm moving on to the next wave of applicants. It doesn't mean I'll get the gig, but seeing the application requirements? I'd say I have a pretty good shot. I have to send them a written sample based on a few prompts I get to choose from. They're ALL Marvel prompts. I don't know if you all are aware of how much of a Marvel fan I am. Right now I'm wearing a hoodie with the Cap shield on it. The comforter on my bed is of Cap and Iron Man. Half my shirts are MCU. I dressed up as Pietro from Wandavision for Halloween. I'm genuinely EXCITED to write this prompt! Let's just hope my sample makes it past however many other writers made it into the next phase. Wish me luck! (And also if you're a fellow Marvel fan or even a DC fan, talk to me about nerd stuff!)

Omg I’m so excited for you. But I have a knock knock joke which would reveal my ultimate Marvel idol. Knock! Knock! Who’s there? Doctor. Doctor Who? No! Doctor Strange!

@akruser13 Johnny Storm was Chris Evans in the movie right? At least it was him in the FF I watched before

@sol_cee Yes! He was a great Torchie too. Whether people liked those films or didn't (I did, of course), everyone agrees that he was spot on for that role at least.

Hahahaha! A Dr Strange fan! My first very favorite superhero in anything was actual my boy Johnny Storm (Human Torch) from Fantastic 4. I'm very excited for them to make an official appearance in MCU.

Wow! Congratulations of the offer. I always enjoyed to train dogs, or at least loving dogs.

Yes! I did it for many years but got out of it for awhile when I moved here to Los Angeles. I'm really excited to get back into the field. Dogs really make the best clients, lol. If I get this second job then it'll be supplemental to the money I'm making from the training sessions.

@akruser13 Just curious, do they need a license or certificate to train dogs?

@Adie04 You don't need one, but usually trainers will apprentice or employ with a professional company so they can build up enough hours to take certification testing. A client looking for a private trainer is always going to take a certified one over a non-certified trainer. I was certified before but it's been awhile so those have since lapsed. I'll be getting them again once I've gotten the hours under my belt.

Well this is way exciting! If you get the gig how often would you be writing for them?

@akruser13 That sounds like a fun job--How do you like Medium?

@divalounger I like it alright. I like the total freedom to post about whatever I want whenever I want. I just don't like that their algorithm basically requires you to post about "this is how to make money!" to actually get any sort of traction on the site. I realize those are the types of articles most people are drawn to, but it's not what I want to write. If I knew how to make a ton of money then I probably wouldn't be on Medium writing for pennies, lol. It just feels very fake to me. But, that being said, I do still make some money posting what I do, even if it's just pennies at a time. A little is better than nothing! Plus it's good practice.

Probably a few times a week looking at it, it'll just be supplemental pay really. They don't pay enough to make a full career out it, but they certainly pay a lot more than I'm making on my view counts writing for Medium, lol.

WOW, congratulations. I love films, but more old stuff, very old "film noir" I am not into Marvel of DC, but I am sure you will enjoy your new job. I suppose the dog training job is out, I am right?

@akruser13 Oh, this is even better, you continue with your job and you also write now. I am a lazy writer, I do not even often write in myLot. I like Casablanca, I have not yet re-watched this year, but I will.

Nono, I'm still doing the dog training! Both are private contractor jobs so essentially I'm making my own schedule. If I get the writing gig I'll just write around my dog training schedule. I've gotten in the habit of writing an article for Medium almost daily anyway so it won't be much different. I like old films too. When I was in college I actually used to keep a poster of Casablanca up on my walls.

@LadyDuck Yes, I get to do two jobs I love! I definitely have lazy days too, don't worry. I didn't start taking my writing more seriously until I quit my regular day job. Then I remembered how much I love writing and decided to really get on top of it.

That's great. I like films too, but I'm not really a Marvel fan. But I have seen a few superhero movies.

I like comic books so of course that transfers to the films. I like most movies though, even ones that other people hate lol. I just like the whole film experience, checking out of reality for awhile and being made to feel emotions while being immersed in other people's stories.

Lol, it's okay. Not everyone can be a cool nerd like me I won't be just writing about Marvel, btw. It just happens to be big rn and the publisher needs to know that you can be on top of the trending topics. I can pitch whatever I want if I get the job though, so I can have the opportunity to write about other movies and tv shows that I like.
