No Russian channels

Though my parents and I are from Belarus we are fluent in Russian as that was one of native languages when we lived there. We don't really speak Belarusian or are fluent in it, though there are many words in Belarusian and Russian that are the same.
Living here in the US, my parents subscribe to a few Russian channels with their cable provider. My dad just told me that in light with what's happening in Ukraine their cable provider (Spectrum) is not showing these channels. They were able to get access to these channels elsewhere though.
I guess everything Russian is being boycotted here. Although the Russian grocery store near us is stocked with groceries from there. Or so it seems anyway.

The Russian grocery store is stocked now but if I were you, I'd buy everything the store has that you like as it may have trouble with it's supply lines until after the war is over.

@kixsh101 I hope Lena has deep pockets and plenty of storage room for the things that will become hard, if not impossible, to find very soon.

@DaddyEvil I will definitely go to the store and see what is in stock that we consume that's from Russia. I know millet I buy is from there.

When such a big situation happens, I´m sure that there will be boycotts but also hoarding of some groceries.

@lovebuglena Soon we will have to gasoline to power our cars. The authorities asked us to have enough food for 5 days at least. I think you have no idea how the situation is here in Europe. We risk a second Chernobyl, but a lot worst.

@marguicha Hoarding is already happening here in Europe, essential goods, but also pills to protect against the radiations.

@LadyDuck I can't believe people hoard. It's like they are only thinking of themselves. Leave some stuff for others that may need it too.

For me, the products do not necessarily have to come from Russia. As long as the products I consume exist I am okay with them being from another country. I just hope they will be there for me to buy if I need them.

As part of the free world's response to Putin's fascist, genocidal war against Ukraine, many companies are following the lead of the world's nations in sanctioning things Russian. The hope is that the Russian will rise up against this 21st Century incarnation of Hitler and bring him down.

But the companies that are making the goods (groceries or non-groceries) have nothing to do with Putin or his actions at the present time. So they are boycotted just because they are Russian companies?

@lovebuglena Yes. It may not seem fair, but not sanctioning these companies means money flowing into Putin's hands, money he'll use to keep massacring women and children in Ukraine.

@DWDavis Here in NYC, a famous Russian restaurant lost a good deal of customers and even got (probably still does) hate calls and messages simply because the name of the restaurant has the word Russian in it. The name is Russian Samovar.

@lovebuglena Biden is the one who suggested the more serious sanctions against Russia. Import from Russia is banned, their Bank system excluded from the International payment system. Once the store will finish what they have in stock, they will receive nothing more. Just be careful, there is so much hate against Russia right now.

@LadyDuck I know. It's upsetting that there is hate towards businesses that have "Russian" in their name. Like one restaurant here in NYC. It's called Russian Samovar. It's been around for a long time. And they are getting hate and losing customers because "Russian" is in their name. They have nothing to do with Russia itself or Putin or what's going on.

I did not think of that but that can very well be the case.

Funny thing (not that war is funny), but after the invasion people stopped buying Russian dressing in the grocery stores, thinking it was made in Russia. People don’t realize that it is a type (flavor) of dressing, not a description of what country it came from.

@lovebuglena I agree!
How have you been holding up since the invasion began? I know your family is from Belarus, so I've wondered if you've been watching this conflict closely.

@moffittjc Hubby is from Ukraine. He constantly keeps up with what's going on there. Me not so much. Too much negativity. But the president of Belarus helping Putin in any way with what they are doing in Ukraine doesn't sit well with me.

I didn't know you could get Russian channels with Spectrum. I would get what you need from the Russian store now before supplies get tight.

Yeah. More than a few. And they have other international channels as well.
