Gas is How Much Now?

One of the gas stations closest to my house has some of the cheaper gas prices in our city. I put gas in my truck last Tuesday, and it was only $3.59/gallon. I drove by the station the next day on Wednesday, and it had increased to $3.69/gallon overnight. By Thursday, it was $3.89. Coming home from work yesterday (Friday), I saw what I knew was coming, but didn't think it would hit so soon....gas was at $4.19/gallon! Has gas gone over $4.00/gallon where you live? (California myLotters, you don't count since your gas is probably like $10/gallon LOL) I'm shocked, but not surprised, since the news has been reporting that it was coming, but I still can't believe it happened so fast. I'm already bracing for $5.00/gallon gas. I'll complain about it fervently, but in the end there won't be much else I can do since I need to fuel my vehicle to get back and forth to work. I know...I'll just cut back on my grocery spending to make up the higher fuel costs! Oh wait, can't do that either. That 25 cent pack of ramen noodles probably costs $5.00 now too.

Today it was about 22 NOK/litre, that's about $2.45/litre. I somehow hope it goes up, 'cause if it doesn't, that probably means that the rest of Europe's back on Russian gas. The gas is more important than the oil I think, unless you're really into sunflower oil. Russia and Ukraine produce 80 % of the worlds sunflower oil. You might want to go for something without wheat in it, so no more ramen noodles. Potatoes might be a good choice.

@DaddyEvil I refuse to convert away from SI-units, which is why I stopped at litres Norway's one of the most expensieve countries in Europe, so that the price is high isn't surprising. I suppose some are driving their electrical car more than the "normal" one. We have plenty of oil and electricity, but hardly any wheat. For some reason it has been decided that what we grow here is animal food.

@Torunn I have to convert it or it feels like what people in other countries are saying is gibberish to me. The US only grows a small percentage of the total amount of wheat grown but we export most of it and then import wheat from other countries. That doesn't make sense to me. Just like we have oil here but export a lot of it and import oil from other countries. Something is off about that.

That equals $9.26 per gallon of gasoline. That's the highest price so far. The US could just stop exporting our wheat and we wouldn't need to import very much.

Gas here is $3.89 per gallon for regular. The price keeps vacillating up and then back down again. We will just stop traveling as much, that's how we always remedy this change. Is it ridiculous, this is happening? YES!

@FourWalls I'm a lucky truck owner, as my commute back and forth is highway miles instead of city miles. I do get about 21 mpg in my truck, which is considered excellent by truck standards. My daughter is luckier....her care gets about 45 mpg.

I think a lot of gas stations are trying to keep gas under $4/gallon, so I imagine there are a lot of places charging $3.99 right now. But it's inevitable that the price will eventually top $4/gallon. I love owning a truck, but times like this I don't love how much it costs to fill up the tank!

Gas prices around here range from $3.59 to $3.89 for regular. Things will only get worse until Putin is taken care of, Russia pulls out of Ukraine, and things get back to some semblance of normal.

I wonder how many people are now wishing we finished the Keystone pipeline? As bad as we think we've got it here, Europe is going to have it a lot worse than us, as they depend very heavily on Russian oil and gas for their economies.

As much as we complain here in the US, our fuel prices are much lower than in Europe and many other parts of the world. People would revolt here if our prices were $10/gallon.

I've already cut back on my joy driving, and started combining trips to knock out several errands at one time. I can't change how much driving I have to do to get to and from work, but I can cut out or reduce how much driving I do for other things. Because of high food and fuel prices, I have been trying to cut back in expenses elsewhere in my life. I already live a pretty simplistic life, so it hasn't been easy finding things to cut back on. I'm not struggling by any means, but I'm just trying to keep my budget on track as much as possible.

Our little Litre of gasoline is now $1.75/L which is crazy expensive. We had 2 hikes this week, we were at around $1.50/L at the beginning of this week and then it went up about 9 cents and then again today the rest.

@DaddyEvil Ouch, that makes it sound even worse. I am trying to be very careful of the trips that I make. With working from home, I do not have to drive much, but still I can cut back and walk here or there if necessary and I should be doing that. Now that you've done the conversion for me, I really won't feel as badly for walking.

@Juliaacv I work from home, too, and am glad I do right now. Pretty claims we need to go grocery shopping but we really don't NEED to go. She's just out of favorite snack foods. The only places we drive now are to the grocery store (3.2 km from home) and to our doctor appointments (about the same distance). A tank of gas lasts us over a month.

It's funny how quick they are to raise prices, but very slow to ever drop prices. And even worse, if you look at gas and energy companies, they all recorded record profits this past year, but are trying to claim that they have no choice but to pass on price increases to customers.

$3.27 a gallon here. I'll fill up the tank when we go shopping later today. We just frown and pay the gas and grocery bill. We have to eat and drive places. There's no other choice. (Pretty will eat ramen noodles but they taste gross to me.)

I've resorted to eating a lot more Ramen now, when I can find it. It's always sold out. I agree with you. No sense complaining too much about the high prices, because unfortunately I don't have many other alternatives. I have to eat, and I have to drive quite a distance to my job. I just have to try and offset those higher costs by cutting back in other areas. For example, no more dining out for me for right now.

It's spring break time now, so people will be flocking to Florida by the millions, so that's going to put additional pressure on gas prices to keep increasing, since demand will be up higher than normal. I won't be surprised at all if gas hits $5.00 here before the summer.

As the old saying goes, everything goes up but our paychecks, right? lol. Funny how all the businesses will go to their customers and say, "Hey, things are going up, we need more," but when we go to the boss and make that argument we are told to suck it up and get back to work. Oh well. lol As for gas, it was $4.59 this morning for regular unleaded and $4.99 for diesel.

I was reading news earlier, gas is very high nearly everywhere in the world. Some countries close to $10 per gallon. I don't like the high prices and it is very hard, but if I had to pay that much I wouldn't be able to go anywhere at all. As it is right now, many of us are sharply curtailing our trips or errand to everything we can to save gas.

That's the important thing right now....just try to conserve as much as we can whenever we can. In all honesty, we really do need a good wakeup call to just how much waste and inefficiencies we have in our daily lives. Maybe this situation will help us see that and find ways to reduce our dependency on oil and gas.

@moffittjc Oh, do I ever agree with your post. Americans waste way too much of everything--fuel, resources, food, time, and energy. Don't like something, they toss it. Can't wear that shirt anymore? They throw it in the trash. If a person has stuff that they don't need and it's still usable, someone can no doubt use it. Either re-purpose, recycle, or donate!
