Men under 40 are the biggest wimps

I did not say that, the neurologist said that in reference to the test he performed today. He did not want me to be nervous about it, and I was not.
So of course, I checked in at the desk, and paid my co pay.Waited in the lobby til a nurse called me back and settled me in my room. I put on the obligatory hospital gown.
Different instruction from any I have had. . . there is a sink running. It is hot water. I was instructed to warm my forearm and hand until they turn pink or red.
When the doctor came in he used a sensor to make sure my hand was warm enough. It was.
He checked various nerves with an electrode that made my hand or arm jump and jerk. Just a little bit tingly, not to bad. Press fingers here, open fingers there, etc. The last part did use needles to "listen to my nerves". He did not mean to, but he did draw blood in a couple of places.
In the transition we talked about how I was responding. I told him that there would be little he could do that would hurt more than my arm going to sleep in my sleep. I told him I knew it would not benefit anything for me to whine.
That is when he told me that men tended to whine more than women. Particularly men under 40 whined a lot and are wimps. He said it, not me.
So that is how the testing went today. It was okay. I would do it again, it was not too bad.

Ahh... I had to do that years ago when I was complaining about my left arm/hand going numb all the time. I ended up having to have carpal tunnel surgery on my left wrist. It was fun.

I was told I had carpal tunnel over 20 years ago, but then the symptoms dissipated. My doc thinks this is more. Who knows. I think the doc wanted me to feel better but some of his comments were kind of sexist, beyond this one.

@DaddyEvil It was not in a bad way. For instance he apologized because I bled a little and would have a bruise or two and said he liked to send patients out as "pretty" as they come in. It was not a "pretty" day in my books. This probably is a one time visit, anyway.

@GardenGerty Oh, wow! Can you get a different doctor? I wouldn't like this one.

I did that once for my legs, never again. It hurt a hell of a lot and was inconclusive of course. I'm sure, if you encountered something you hated, you might complain about it. Hospital treatments isn't one of them.

I feel for you, because what I understand from my brother and others was this test used to be a lot more painful and complicated, with more needles involved as well. I have just reached the point where my hand and arm problems are worse than the test.

OH I totally agree with that. It's what I've noticed with the men around me. My father was scared of the hospital more than my mom was. My brothers too. I would even often here my father said that I was even braver than my brothers.

Generally I have always heard this. Women, mostly, just get on with the business of living. There are jokes about men dying of a Man cold.

Women are just used to getting up and taking care of business, regardless.

I think he was trying to be kind. I did not really find it to be too bad, but then it was only my arm and that hurts all the time anyway,

I believe it, especially if they've got a cold.

Just what I was saying to someone else. My first husband was not that way, nor is my son, but boy, my second husband. . . and I do feel sorry for him, but some of the complaints he has, I have as well and just keep on going.

It really was no worse than donating blood, or sticking my finger for reading my blood sugar.
