Oklahoma's 'School Choice'-Bill is "Dead on the House Floor"; and for Good Reason

I'm not sure which stats inspired the bill, but these are as good as any! https://www.educationnext.org/does-school-choice-reduce-crime/

Statistics say that Oklahoma's schools are not doing as well as other schools (I'm not sure exactly how they quantify that). Oklahoma lawmakers think that has to do with 'the fact that the teachers get paid no matter HOW many students do well.' So they figure that--if they make public money follow THE STUDENTS rather than 'how they've BEEN distributing it--all the students will be better-taught (& the teachers whose students transfer out' will either improve their methods or change careers). But ... I don't think it would work, even if that bill would pass The House. https://okcfox.com/news/local/oklahoma-empowerment-act-kevin-stitt-charles-mccann-education-rural-schools-state-of-the-state The way it was when I was in public school, you went to the school that you lived in the district-of (i.e. the one you lived closest-to). If you don't TRY in school, 'travelling further away to attend school' won't improve your grades! So I'd agree with the bill where it gives schools' money to home-schooling parents in that school's district. And maybe giving the money to 'online schools' if the student transfers to take THOSE classes instead. But how is 'a lazy student' going to perform any better under a new teacher (further away)?

I think giving some of the schools money to home-schooling parents is a very good idea.

I'm not sure that homeschooling itself is such a good idea (as the goal of most people should be 'to serve society better').

@mythociate Oh, I would have preferred to be homeschooled. The bullies were so bad at school I hated going. If I ever had kids (which I won't now because I'm too old) I would definitely homeschool. I could teach my kids to 'serve society better' by taking them out into the real world and teaching them like that.
