What I have this afternoon is a dessert soup locally called “tabirak”. It is also called “binignit” by Visayan speaking people and also known as “ginataang halo-halo” by people living in other regions. Ginataan refers to food cooked using the “gata” or coconut milk. Halo-halo is mix of various ingredients combined together. The main ingredients for this dish is glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk and sugar and added with slices of ripe plantains, taro , sweet potato, and sago. Others also add “landang” (powdered buri palm starch) on their dish and flakes of ripe jackfruit for aromatic and added flavor.

Oh, wow, my favorite snack back then. I seldom find one nowadays that is good. I like them with bananas too.
. When we were young our household help would just be dug for the root crops in our backyard and prepare to cook them for our afternoon snack. It is so heavy that at times I feel full eating them.
