Whilst most people will be talking about the sensational recall for India's greatest ever captain Sourav Ganguly, another issue of significance arose from the selection meeting. Hyderabadi stylist VVS Laxman has replaced Sehwag as vice captain in a move long overdue. Maybe Sehwag will now have time for a proper diet!
Does it make that much of a difference? People said Rahul was a great vice captain. It could be argued his contribution in this role helped Sourav become the captain he did. Yet Rahul has not turned out to be a great leader of men. We have seen also in rugby when Andy Robinson and in football when Steve McClaren were promoted from within that they are not cut out to be the top man.
In short, yes vice captaincy is important but don't get carried away with it!

I feel this would indeed bring out the best in VVS as he relishes responsibility and likes to guide youngsters like Sourav does (the man who showed great belief in the Hyderabadi incidently. Mind you, even Sehwag looks to get the team playing better than Rahul did! Rather like Pakistan - looked a better side under YK at Leeds than when Inzi was captain in first 2 tests of that summer series!
