Medicare Scam.

My first hint that it was a scam was the two-second wait before someone picked up on the other end.
The guy who picked up had a heavy accent that I could not identify, and then he mispronounced my first name.
He said something about Medicare and asked me to confirm that I'd be turning 65 in only 37 years. I said that might be the case.
He then forwarded me to some guy whose accent was less pronounced. I could not tell what accent he had either. It was not Filipino, Indian, Russian, Mexican, African-American, or Israeli.
He started asking me for information I did not care to provide, and I asked if he had a phone number at which I could call him back (for reporting purposes).
He said "absolutely." He then said "XXX" and the line went dead.
I just called the Medicare Scam phone number. They (I only had to wait eight minutes to talk to a human) told me that Medicare/Social Security does not call people, and gave me a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) number to call to report the attempted scam.
If you have friends and relations who are in the Medicare age range, please let them know that scams abound.

We get 1/2 dozen of these calls a day. I no longer answer the phone if I don't know who it is.

@TheHorse I'm lucky -- I don't get the emails.

Scams abound here too. There are people in jail who do the talking while they have friends to collect. The usual thing is that there has been an accident of someone in my family. They know names and ID numbers.

@TheHorse I have 4 names PLUS the last names (2 in Spanish). They know them all although none of my friends do

@Tina30219 Sadly, it is nearly impossible to report the scammers. I just tried.

Thankfully I have no mobile phone anyone could call me on, I have my Medicare card and I am glad I do not have to worry about such things,

@TheHorse I use the site Textnow to make calls and to text, I do not have anyone to really contact and when I make a call anywhere in the US it is for free, The only thing is that if a site I want to join asks for a number I cannot give them my Textnow number because they do not accept it,

@RasmaSandra That could be a pain in the butt. How do you deal with it?

''I want to tell you about our wondeful Medicare supplement available to you! Oh, can you hear me OK?''
Like anyone with a brain is going to fall for that. This, or a similar version of it, is on my voicemail several times per day. ( I refuse to answer spam calls.) They never give up.

@TheHorse
My Iphone almost always says when it's spam, which helps to not answer, and then block. Of course they can just call from a different number and I realize it is a robocall, but I still hate spammers.

OH yes, if you didn't call them, Medicare is highly unlikely to call you!

I'm wondering why they have a Medicare Scam phone number if all they do is tell you to call the FTC. Call me cynical if you want but it seems to me that the Medicare Scam people are kind of useless.

Thanks for the information since I am in the age range of Medicare and I could fall victim to the scheme myself if I am not careful.
