My roommate likes to give me her clothes. There are occassions when I do not like the articles of clothing, but accept the clothes to be nice. My closet is bulging with clothes that either do not fit or are just plain ugly. I am giving alot of my clothes away to donation for the 40 Items For Lent. The clothing item today from her was an ugly turquoise hoodie. I just did not want or like. I gave the hoodie to her and said I do not like the hoodie. She got upset. She told me she is never giving me anything ever again. Was I wrong in saying no?

Hmmm....my daughter loves turquoise hoodies. You should have sent it to me! haha You were not wrong in being honest with your roommate. Do you and her get along well otherwise?

I think she is a bit sensitive. In fact sometimes I also have the similar situation like you, but usually I will say that this clothes is too large for me or something like that as a decline. Or I will just accept to it and then give it to another one.

you are kind-hearted,if i was you,i will refuse directly,I wouldn't like to figure out a excuse to force myself accept unpleasant things, even that will waste my time and energy in my opinion.

@jefferson126 I understand your meaning. I just don't want to waste things. I hope these will be good for some people anyway.

I would just say thanks, then takes the stuff I didn't like and donate it. My daughter brought me a big container of clothes and I didn't like most of the stuff, so I kept the things I liked and then took the rest to the thrift store.

I think it is good if she stops giving you clothes. You said you often don't like them so now you won't have to accept them just to be nice.

You did a very right thing,if you don't like those clothes, you should tell her without hesitation, don't be ashamed, everyone had right to choose favourite things and refuse sth not fond of.speaking of your roommate,i think she was full of herself, show no respect on you.You should refuse her eariler,if she is upset, let her go,it's not worth remaining friendship with such one.good luck.

But I love my roommate. I hate disappointing her.
