Is this decision correct?

Indonesia
March 21, 2022 9:37pm CST
2 days ago, I got a call for an interview for a job and the result I was accepted. However, my parents did not allow me to work in the company because the work was not easy for a woman. I've been waiting for this for a long time though. My parents said there would be a better job. However, I have to respect my parents' decision. Hopefully there will be a better job in the future.

This depends on your culture I believe.

You should know yourself if you're capable of doing the job! Don't let your parents stop you from doing something that you want to do!

I don't know. It depends on. If you like this job or it offers a good paid, why not have a try? You can still quit it anytime after you work for a while.

when it's signed, you can't leave the company as you please. If you leave the company, you have to pay

You have not mentioned what job it is. Still, you should go with what you like, don't think of others.

I think you could have tried the job for some experience. Though I don't know in what way it was unsuitable for you.

May I know what position was that, or rather, what job were you applying for?

Actually I applied for an administrative position according to my background but was given an account officer position. One of the recruitment staff explained that my position was on duty outside the office and had to be on target

Why do your parents feel the work was not 'easy for a woman'? Do they feel you would be in danger? As a parent, I would be unlikely to discourage my child from working. I would encourage them to build independence and experience. If I did not want my daughter to take a job, it would have to be for a very good reason. Her safety is of greatest concern to me, as I'm sure your health and safety is to yours. You have not given us much information - but your parents' concern is a red flag. Are you still living with them? Their concerns and opinions have greater weight if you are dependent upon them. With life experience, they may see reasons for concern that a youthful person may dismiss.

I still live with my parents. Yes, maybe you are right that my parents are worried and thinking about things that I don't think of. I can't explain everything to you

Impossible to say if the decision of your parents is correct, it depends by your culture and I would say also from your age. If you are underage is different, if you are an adult, you should be allowed to take your decisions.

That is usually the case when one job you wanted you did not get due to your parents being concerned.

Well, I know Indonesian culture is always like that, cause I'm Indonesian itself. However, I think it depends on you, do you know what do you actually want to do?, and yeah we need to respect our parents' decisions, and we need to think about our future too. So, think about it it deeply, do research about what kind of job do you want to do. And yeah we have our own time for grow and found our job. LOL I'm sorry if you can't understand what I'm saying, but keep it up, friend! I hope you'll find a great job in the future

I would say it depends on how old you are, and what your back ground is.

Hmm... I'm curious what type of job it was? Why would your parents say it's "not easy for a woman"?

@nurulaz Hmm... so it's not office work but more "on the field" type. Do they think women should only be or could only work in an office? What sort of field work would it be? Would you need to move around a lot? (Travel, commute, drive...) Or do you just stay in one place, but not an office? Is it out in the sun most of the time, or are you at least in the shade of buildings and stuff? Do you think it would have been a job you could handle?

@moirai Maybe..because I haven't tried this job yet Yes, so I have to do field work, do socialization, interact from one person to another and have to ride (motorcycle) too. Of course it will be in the sun hahaha. Indeed I want to work and try. but after i told my parents i was not allowed. I've asked permission several times but still not allowed and told to try to find another better job. In the end I didn't take the job. Hopefully there will be a better job for me in the future

If you are an adult your parents should not be able to make decisions for you. They can guide, advise, and assist. But it's your decision and not theirs to make.
