"The Ash Lad: In the Hall of the Mountain King"? Just watched it on YT very recently (as in, in the past few days)... Interesting. I don't remember anymore if I found it while trying to look for a video of Peer Gynt (music), or if I found the movie first and remembered the music (because it had "in the hall of the mountain king" in its title) and that's why I've been listening to the music lately... I don't remember because... I suppose it's one of those going down rabbit hole things... Anyway, interesting movie. It's a Norwegian film, I guess, but the one I watched on YT was dubbed in English. The start was very interesting to me because it was in the style of the start of LOTR (narration, and a fantasy story). Then I got a bit confused, lol! And there was a danger of losing my interest for a while. Ahahaha! Mostly because some minor things were weird to me (or maybe it was just a translation thing...). Also, I didn't quite understand why some characters were treating this one guy like a child, or why he was acting like a child, when he didn't look like a child at all. Anyway, as the story picked up, I kind of gathered that his character was probably meant to be childish in some way. And as the story went, it became more interesting. Not perfect, but the story and movie was fine. And now, I'm quite interested in Norwegian folklore, Asbjornsen and Moe, Peer Gynt (play and music), etc., etc. (Rabbit holes, I tell you.) And apparently, there is a sequel to this movie. I might go look for that. Have you heard of it or seen it? I'll probably add a link to the YT video below...

We try to get to the International Film Festivals that are held here from time to time. We love the foreign films and have seen some good Norwegian ones.

Hmm... I'm not aware if they hold international film festivals here in my country. What I know we have is a local film festival. That happens towards the end of each year, and it's associated with the local/national award show for films. So usually there are only local films shown during Christmas. And the usual international (English-language) films that have worldwide release during that time gets pushed back to January or something... But those are just the big worldwide release movies. Other foreign films are probably rarely shown here... But I'm not really knowledgeable in this so... maybe they are shown here and I'm just not aware.

@moirai We rarely used to go to the movies apart from these festivals but now, in our lifestyle village, there are free movies once a week so we've been going to them too.

@JudyEv Nice! Well, if it's free, I'll make time for it. I remember, before the pandemic, some cinemas here offer free movies once a week to senior citizens. So my father regularly checks what's on and goes if he wants to watch it. He sees some of the neighbors go there as well.

@amelied Yes, it is. I've linked to the the youtube video at the end of my post, if you're interested in watching it. (I hope the link works fine.) I am actually rewatching it now (just pausing when a customer comes -- I'm manning a small store), and I find that I'm enjoying it more on this second watch. Maybe because the things I found weird at the beginning on first watch, don't seem so weird anymore, because I understand the characters a little more now.
