My deep thoughts about the Chris Rock/Will Smith thing last night

That title is entirely sarcastic by the way. I don't have much of an opinion on it one way or another. It has been all over the news today that Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith's wife. She has alopecia (hair loss) and shaved her head like a year ago. That issue has been in the news before. Anyway the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith looking like Demi Moore in the movie G.I. Jane. (military recruit who shaved her head) The thing is that when the camera was on Will Smith immediately after the joke he was smiling, laughing, and just about to start clapping. The view then cut back to Chris Rock and we could only see him laughing until he saw Smith climbing up onto the stage, approaching him and slapping him. There is no way to tell what caused Smith to suddenly go from laughing to being enraged. After he smacked Rock he returned to his seat and screamed "keep my wife's name out your f**king mouth!" a couple of times. I honestly don't know who was right or wrong in the situation. It is just a shame that this absurdity overshadowed other people's wins and even Will Smith's first Oscar win. It will always be tarnished by that incident.
Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences leadership "strongly considered" removing Will Smith from the Oscars telecast Sunday night after the actor stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face, a source close to the situation tells CNN.

Sometimes you never know what could set someone off. I saw the headline, but as usually, didn't think anything about it. You can't have an awards show without something epic happening.

I don't disagree with you but he found it funny and then suddenly decided to assault Chris Rock. That's what doesn't make sense to mem.

@NJChicaa A delayed reaction perhaps? That's all I can think of. Like he heard the joke, and a few seconds later realized what had been said, and reacted accordingly.

Chris Rock made a joke about Jada's shaved head. (she has alopecia) He said he was looking forward to GI Jane 2. Will Smith initially laughed but then went up on stage and slapped him in the face. He then went back to his seat and yelled "keep my wife's name out your f**king mouth!" a couple of times.

I read somewhere that Jada gave Will a look and after that he stormed on stage. Not sure how true that is as I didn't watch the Oscars. Regardless of how Will felt I don't think he should've gone on stage and slapped Chris Rock. If anything he should've confronted Chris Rock after the show or back stage during commercials, and without any physical contact. I hope they won't take away his Oscar for what he did. Everyone's talking about this incident more than about him winning the Oscar, which was well-deserved.

I didn’t see it but Chris deserved a-good slap for insulting Wills wife. That was so cruel an rude.

I'mma be real here. As a stupid as this was. At least people are talking about The Oscars again... I thought the joke was harmless, but I know this song and dance. Some women are taught that part of their beauty lies with their hair. So to lose it mean they lose a part of their beauty.

Will Smith should have approached Chris Rock after the show and expressed his displeasure.
