Finally, justice has been done! Reason has won the day in Islamabad and Shahid Afridi has been dropped from the one day team for a world class spinner in Danish Kaneria. Afridi showed no regard for the team and constantly gave his wicket away. Such players have no place in a team seriously looking to win the World Cup.
Squad: Younis Khan (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Yasir Hameed, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Yousuf, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Rao Iftikhar, Umar Gul, Mohammad Sami, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Danish Kaneria, Abdul Rehman.
That's the squad. Inzi will join up for the 2nd odi. Great to see Rana Naveed back - his confidence is back up and he's a fine odi performer - extremely attacking option with the ball and can bat much better than Afridi at 8, allowing Sami to come in at 9. His more attacking approach in domestic cricket, bowling faster has yielded greater success compared to the county cricket short run up inspired by Bob Woolmer. At the top of the order, I'd have preferred to see Salman Butt to Yasir Hameed because I feel Salman is a special player as he has shown in Australia and has the capacity to play the long innings. My X1 would be:
Mohammad Hafeez
Imran Farhat
Younis Khan (C)
Mohammad Yousuf
Shoaib Malik,
Abdul Razzaq
Kamran Akmal (wk)
Rana Naveed-ul-hasan
Mohammad Sami
Umar Gul
Danish Kaneria

i disagree on the exclusion of Afridi
he should be played in subcontinent & maybe not abroad(outside sub continent)
imran farhat is waste of time salman butt should be played THATS THE DELIMA THAT FARHAT SCORES ON FLAT PITCHES IN PAKISTAN BUT OUT SIDE HIS RECORD IS TRULY PATHETIC

i believe that because there is more probability of sfridi scoring on flat pitches his preferrability over farhat is multidimensional as a full fledge all rounder FARHAT IS THE WORST CATCHER IN ENYIRE TEAM WORSE THAN kaneria he drops average three catches a match hence not suitable to play

Afridi should e played everywhere not just in subcontinent. Only problem is he is struggling. So taking that into consideration, it is perfect that he is dropped/rested. He will get a chance to reevaluate things. I am sure he will come back stronger. It is easier for attacking batsmen to hit their way out of trouble. :)

Well he has had more lives than a Cheshire cat. I think it is time Pakistan sent a strong message that they only want players who value their wicket (even in odis) and not wasters like Afridi. For all Shoaib Akhtar for example is the showman, he bowls his heart out and is consistently world class. I think Kaneria is a hard worker, a gutsy cricketer who deserves his chance.
