"Thriller" was released in 1982 and has one of my favorite music videos. The music is a mixture of disco-funk and was written by Rod Temperton. Temperton wanted to compose a song that went along with Jackson's love of movies, in this case horror films. At the end of the song is a spoken-word sequence by Vincent Price.
The song was certified 7x Platinum and is often quoted as a "pop culture phenomenon and a Halloween anthem".
The "Thriller" music video was directed by John Landis and has been named the greatest music video of all time by some publications and readers' polls. It was the first music video to be added to the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant.
In the music video Jackson is a zombie with a horde of the undead. The zombie dance had a lasting impact on pop culture along with Michael's red jacket. The Library of Congress stated that it was "the most famous video of all time".
The song hit #1 on the US Radio & Records CHR/Pop Airplay Chart.
"You hear the door slam
And realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand
And wonder if you'll ever see the sun"
