Average Life Expectancy

United States
April 15, 2022 4:14pm CST
If you're in the US, your life expectancy is 80 years for females and 77 years for males. Worldwide, it's less on average, with females just a bit higher than males. 72 years is the average worldwide. By the time you reach adulthood at 18, you have already spent a quarter of your lifespan. At 54, you are entering the last quarter of your life. At 36, half your life has been spent. For those over 54, how do you feel about entering the last quarter of life? For those over 70, do you feel that you're on borrowed time or do you still feel fit and healthy? I am 60 and feel that I am not as fit and healthy as I once was. Everyone is different and individual factors help determine longevity. Do you feel that you will beat the average or fall short?

Honestly, there's no telling... My maternal grandparents both lived over 100 years. Mom passed away around her 81st birthday. My paternal grandparents were both killed when they were in their late 30s in farming accidents. My dad passed away on his 70th birthday. I have three older brothers still living... The oldest is in his 80s. I'm the youngest of the siblings still living. My youngest brother passed away a few months ago. (Four of my brothers passed away since the pandemic started.) I'm not 60 yet but have some health problems and am unsteady on my feet. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil That's it. They profited by labeling everything COVID. It was amazing that flu, pneumonia and heart disease deaths dropped off significantly during Covid. Funny thing, huh?

@DaddyEvil Something just doesn't add up. Things just make little sense. I think CCP and WHO have some serious questions to answer about the origin and the global spread.

@Vikingswest1 Exactly, although flu has been down overall while everyone was wearing masks. But yes, the decline in the other types of deaths certainly make me say "Huh...".

I wasn't aware of that. I read somewhere recently that the average age of women, probably either in Canada or here in Ontario, is 84. My mother passed away at that age, my Dad left us at 73. He was too young.

I just looked. It's 73 for men and almost 84 for women in Canada. It listed figures for 2021. Your country is second, slightly behind Japan. Your parents both hit the average.

@Juliaacv I guess you could put your wishes in writing to save others from that decision. I did.

I hope for a long life. I have never felt fit, because my cp can make me feel different things at different times. However, my husband is 62, and he at times feels his age. My mother-in-law lived to be 92.

I understand that you've had some challenges with your health but you seem to hold a happiness level that's higher than most which can translate into an extended lifespan. I know JUST how your husband feels. Some days it can seem like work just to get through the daily tasks and chores.

@Vikingswest1 Yeah, I know. When my husband works, his job can be very physically demanding.

@kaylachan Luckily, I don't have to do that demanding work anymore but those tough years took a toll on my body. Some days are worse than others.

In so many ways, I feel younger, but then a health issue pops up to remind me how old I am.

I see sixty but don't feel that old but like you, I have issues that pop up as reminders. I am in the last quarter of life, even if I don't want to think it.

@Vikingswest1 I try to remember that every year I live is one less year before my departure. I don't want to waste however much time I have left.

I saw the story recently about the ages dropping unfortunately. We all really need to make the most out of each moment. I have no idea to be honest, I take it a day at a time most days.

I was watching a program on the Aztecs and the lifespan was 41 years. It prompted me to look up the averages today. Surprisingly, the average went up marginally during COVID. Taking life a day at a time is the best way to view it IMO.

My goal is to live to be 100. I am almost 62. I feel like an 18 year old. I have some health issues but my mind doesn't dwell on it so I am still hoping to make it to 100. I feel that if my mind thinks I am going to live to be 100, it will convince my body I can do it too! My brother dwells on life expectancy. I don't think much about it.

If I am healthy, I'd like to see the century mark too but I seriously doubt my body will hold out that long. I hope you're successful.

I'm 41, but no way do I live a long time with my health problems, and the medicine I'm on. I'm okay with that though.

I’m halfway through . Scary to think my husband and I will be almost 60 when our youngest graduates high school. I hope he likes longer then his grandfather did and I hope neither of us get Alzheimer’s like our grandmothers did.
