Seriously? Florida is banning math books (mostly K-5th grade) for including banned topics like "critical race theory" and other things the GOP finds objectionable. No specific reasons have been offered but at last count 54 of 132 texts submitted to the state got approval have been rejected for attempting to indoctrinate students using prohibited strategies. Seriously? MATH? What the hell does the Florida GOP find objectionable about MATH? Are there questions about numbers or values of slaves in the South? One more state that is working hard to dumb down their children and residents. I discuss things that I guess extremists could call CRT (social Darwinism) but I teach science. I have absolutely no idea how MATH could be controversial. These people are nuts and anyone who supports this garbage is out of their mind. I have no idea why anyone would want to live in a red state these days.

I happen to like math a lot and I not find anything related to math as being racist for crying out loud.

Soon there will be no place in the US where you can live in peace. Even math is going to become socially incorrect?

The Florida GOP and Adolf DeSantis have already demonized science and educated people to a point not seen since the days of Pol Pot in Cambodia. Dumbing down and attacking math is the next logical step. Every state with a teacher shortage should begin recruiting heavily in Florida. Teachers there are looking to escape.

Interesting. I like things that are "nuts". I'm like a little squirrel I guess. Oh look a nut. I must investigate. Before reading your post I never even heard about SEL but apparently according to the Washington Post $30 Billion was spent on it. The article went on to say, "SEL and CBE are heavily weighted toward a conception of education as focused on workforce development rather than preparing active, informed citizens." and also they thought it was more to do with the current pop culture Pop culture does that have something to do with Coke or Cream Soda? I liked cream soda when I was a child but anyway my guess the old way of teaching was best. Strange, when did mathematics become something other than mathematics? Makes me wonder what the mathematics books look like. Charles saw 2 monkey's in the jungle, one ran away, how many were left? One, right? Or, is that wrong?
