I begin my series on songs with "street" in the title with a song by U2 "Where the Streets Have No Name". This song was recorded by the Irish rock band and is the opening track on their album The Joshua Tree in 1987. It was released as the third single from the album. The lyrics were written by lead vocalist Bono responding to the notion that it is possible to identify the religion and income of a person based on the street they lived on, particularly in Belfast.
The song charted in the US, Canada, the Netherlands, and the UK. They have used this song in their live act since its debut in 1987 on The Joshua Tree Tour. The song was performed on a LA rooftop when filming the music video and won the Grammy Award for Best Performance Music Video.

A good song from a terrible time in Northern Ireland’s history.
