"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" was written by the team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin and was released in 1973. Some critics consider this to be a contender for the best song written by the duo. Taupin's lyrics refer to his childhood on a farm in Lincolnshire and his desire to live a more tranquil life and get back to his "roots". The song was certified Gold in 1974, Platinum in 1995 and 2x Platinum in 2020. It hit #1 on the US Cash Box 100, #2 on the US Billboard Hot 1000, #7 on the US Adult Contemporary (Billboard) and #17 on the US Hot Rock & Alternative Songs (Billboard). @iluvuabado86 It was inspired by Taupin's childhood; but he does mention the Yellow Brick Road.

I believe it's inspired of the Wizard Of Oz? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My mom ADORED this song. I have written discussions about how I heard this while practicing for a golf tournament and the memories of my mom overwhelmed me so much I sat down and cried. An absolute classic song, not just from Elton but from the 70s.

One of my favorite songs of Elton John. Please check the version of Sara Bareilles. A version approved by Elton John himself.

I think it was a wonderful song. It makes sense that it pretains to childhood and getting back to what once was.
