What Makes Us Laugh?

I love to laugh and, make others laugh. I like that belly rumbling, deep-down laughter that nearly makes you lose control of your bladder. Ever stop to think about what really is funny to us? What makes us laugh? For myself, I don't enjoy slapstick, offensive, or a lot of the comedy done on sitcoms. I don't care for it if it is hurtful to others. Self-deprecating can be humorous to a point. What type(s) do you like? I guess I like the more witty and cerebral. The older comedians, I always enjoyed were Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, Victor Borge, Groucho and Harpo Marx, George Burns, and Shelley Berman. Do you remember any of these? Jimmy Durante's "Hachachacha!" Always made me laugh. Victor Borge was a musical comedian. Pretty funny. Loved George and Gracy Burns. So cute! It was actually her idea to make her out to be such a ditz. Shelly Berman did the funniest skit about a guy in a building across the street from a department store. He can see this lady hanging out a window and he is calling the department store to try to get some help for her. So funny! I like some of the younger comediennes like Gilda Radner, Lauren Lapkus, Sandra Bernhard, Sarah Silverman, Charlyne Yi, Kate McKinnon, and a recent favorite is Iliaza Shlesinger. Of course Whoopy Goldberg and Joan Rivers. Do you know any of these? The younger comedians I like are George Carlin, Robin Williams, and Jeff Dunham. Some sitcoms are cute, to begin with, but they draw them out too long and they become stupid. Picture courtesy of the Free Social Encyclopedia.

Most sitcoms today are dumb. I like ones like Friends and The Office. I know all of the comedians except a couple of the younger ones.

@celticeagle Yes, it was heartbreaking. Patch Adams was one of my favorites.

Quite a list of comedians there. George Carlin and Robin Williams always made me laugh. Gene Wilder's movies were always funny to me. Lucille Ball, Rodney Dangerfield, Redd Foxx, Jerry Lewis, Carol Burnett, Red Skeleton, Tim Conway and Don Knotts were other comics I remember fondly.
